Today would have been my oldest son’s 53rd birthday. Unfortunately, he passed away on November 23rd, 2020, at the age of 49. I will always remember that phone call from other son, David, telling me the terrible news. He was working for PSE&G in Hoboken, New Jersey, when his heart gave out.
I spent today in one of my favorite places, my backyard pool. Most of the time I am in their allow, sometimes it’s good and other times it’s not! Today was one of those days. I could actually see my boy Henry opening the gate to the back yard and saying” hi dad”, he was the first person to ever call me that, and I Loved it! I started remembering him as he grew up, he excelled in wrestling for Lodi, High School, and was the Big Brother to his 2 sisters and brother. I was a single parent for 8 years, and when I worked, he, with the help of my daughter Kim, looked after them as much as I would. Then he started working for the same company as I worked, PSE&G.
When I married the the love of my life, Joyce, Henry was my best Man, and several years later, when he got married, he asked me to be his Best Man! During the next several years he and his wife had 2 beautiful children. He was so proud of them, Casey excelled in tennis and was the prom queen, and a college graduate, Nick played baseball for his high school. Henry always said that they were GOOD kids.
A few weeks ago, Casey and Nick showed up at my granddaughter’s 16th birthday party. Casy was beautiful as ever and Nick told me that he was graduating from college and was soon going to start a new job, at PSE&G in the Electric department in Clifton. His father would have been proud, as does his grandfather!
Yes, today was one of those days that brought back good memories that made me smile, while others made me cry!
LOVE YOU Henry!
