💙💛 West Stanly Rotary Welcomes Emily Jones!

We enjoyed having Emily Jones, Director of Locust Parks and Recreation, as our guest speaker at this morning’s Rotary breakfast! Emily was the guest of Rotarian Pam Carrick and shared exciting updates about improvements and upcoming activities in our community.

🌳 Exciting Improvements at Jeff Shelton Park!

Emily shared that the City of Locust has received a $500,000 state grant, which, combined with approximately $300,000 in city funding, will provide nearly $800,000 in park improvements!

The project will focus on accessibility, including upgrades to the playground, restrooms, and access to the parking area, making the park more welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

Emily is also working on a grant proposal to purchase additional land near Jeff Shelton Park.

⚾ Supporting Local Athletics

Locust received $10,000 through NC Sports Betting funding to purchase athletic equipment. Future plans also include improvements to field lighting and dugouts.

💙💛 West Stanly Rotary Welcomes District Governor Jerry Coughter!

We were delighted to welcome our new Rotary District 7680 Governor, Jerry Coughter, to our Thursday morning meeting!

Governor Jerry started our morning with plenty of laughter.

But beyond the laughter, Jerry delivered a meaningful message that really hit home.

“Showing up is my superpower.”

He reminded us that this is a superpower we ALL share as Rotarians. We show up. We show up for our club, our community, and one another. And when we show up, we make a difference!

Governor Jerry congratulated West Stanly Rotary on our membership growth, noting that the average Rotary club loses approximately 15% of its members each year. He shared valuable insights into why people join Rotary and what we can do to attract new members while keeping our current members engaged and excited about serving.

Jerry also highlighted this year’s upcoming Foundation Celebration, which will take a different approach! Instead of a fancy $100 event, Rotarians will have the opportunity to enjoy a meal, participate in a meaningful service project, and make a difference for just $50. All proceeds will benefit Nourish Up Hunger Hub, helping fight hunger in our communities.

Thank you, Governor Jerry, for your humor, encouragement, and dedication to Rotary!

We left reminded that sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply SHOW UP! 💙💛
