Summer is upon us, which means children are home from school for the summer and we want to make sure their nutrition needs are met. In partnership with Quaker road church and SERV Niagara we are collecting non-perishable food and hygiene items for the entire month of June. Please help support this effort of restocking multiple food pantries that serve the Barker, Gasport, Somerset, Middleport, Royalton and Hartland areas in rural Niagara County.

The rural communities in Niagara County, it's often difficult for individuals in need to leave these rural areas to get to the more populated areas to receive food assistance and support. With this Food Drive, we aim to help support families and children through the summer.

Daily drop off locations, addresses and times are located on the flyer. If your place of business, social club or other group wish to coordinate a Food Drive or list your location as a drop off site, please contact us and we can post your group on our page and we'll be happy to schedule a pick up!

Should you prefer to make a tax-deductible monetary donation, please feel free to do on our website. Funds will be utilized to shop for non perishables and fill the pantries. Thank you for your support in assisting rural Niagara County families.

On Friday Senator Rob Ortt presented NYS Senate Certificates of Recognition to the students who participated in our Kids Breaking Free Foundation, Summer STEM Program.

I also presented scholarships in the amount of $2,500 to each student. This scholarship is for any post-high school program that results in a certificate, degree, or diploma whether the student chooses to continue their education in a 2 year college, 4 year, trade school or other.

In this summer STEM program, students identified several challenges in and around the Erie Canal. Utilizing all of the components of STEM they came up with two solutions to solve an environmental, ecological and societal issue that is devastating to our community and beyond.

As such, after presenting this program and the research behind it to Senator Ortt, he sent a letter to the commissioner of the DEC on behalf of these students, calling attention to their great work. There are laws in effect that are meant to protect our waterways, however, the means are not in place that allow boaters to comply with those laws. We hope that the DEC recognizes these efforts and seriously consider the solutions these students came up with to combat what could ultimately be a complete devastation to all waterways and the domino effect in communities.

We are advocating to open the first Boat Wash Station on the Erie Canal, and the students have also developed an idea for all boaters to locate boat washing stations on all waterways through an app that is currently in the process of being trademarked.

I’m so proud of what these students have done to bring these ideas to life! These are our future inventors, entrepreneurs, and leaders shaping our future in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math as well as activism!

We thank everyone who was a part of making this program successful! Stay tune because there’s more to come!
