Roo's journey!! It was certainly a long and sometimes hopeless road but here he is today
Piebalds come with many
deformities thankfully Roos were only his legs that were visible. He does have an arched spine which could mean he has internal deformities but for now he's doing well. His legs were a challenge mainly because of how tiny they are. I came up with many different types of splints from my imagination 🤪i would lay in bed at night thinking about how to create a splint for each leg because their deformation was totally different. So when I say your donations are helping me help them I truly mean it. This was a very expensive journey getting his legs straight. A lot of trial and error.
Thank you for helping me save lives. Roo's journey is just one from this season that i couldn't do without you ♥️

Friday Milk Fund if you would like to help me help them i have links in my profile! Goldie has slowly stopped taking bottles, I love when they wean themselves. The only reason I'm still nursing the outside fawns is because Fairy is too young and needs it but you can't go out with one bottle because you'll get mauled 😂 Ferris and Freckles inside are nursing because they need to put on weight and they are only about 8 weeks old. Never expected to be nursing in October. Thank you always for your support •

My heart goes out to these little ones who lost their moms and trying to thrive alone. Both of them are late babies, no more than two months old. They would still be nursing if mom was around, because of that and how thin they are I tried a bottle. I couldn’t believe how quickly they both grabbed it. Bottle feeding will help put weight on faster. I mentioned in last post deer are very affectionate specially a mother and fawn. By looking at their body condition they haven’t had affection in several weeks. I’m grateful they have each other. Sunday was a busy day. This was my second rescue (last post) both fawns are late babies. This little guy was definitely grabbed by something, he has several puncture wounds on the inside of his thigh. Both fawns you’ll see at end of video have been alone for a while. Very thin and dehydrated. I’m happy they have each other now. Deer are very affectionate towards one another and being a herd animal it always breaks my heart seeing one alone. I rescued Freckles yesterday. He’s a late baby at the most 3 months old but extremely underweight. He has the usual diarrhea, bloated belly that fawns get when they lose their mom. He did well throughout the night having a stall buddy, another rescue from yesterday I will share later. I can’t thank you enough for your donations. In the last couple of days I’ve gone through a hundred dollars worth of gas picking them up on top of the medication, food, shavings and cleaning supplies. Diarrhea butts are the messiest jobs. Thank you for helping ❤️

This time of year I receive dozens of calls about Bucks lying in their backyard for several hours sometimes the whole day. We are in what we call “The Rut” which is mating season. Bucks are full of testosterone in their peak strongest Physique of the year. They are fighting other bucks and chasing the ladies. It becomes exhausting. They are more active at night, finding a quiet place during the day to rest usually alone or sometimes with a Doe nearby. Please give them space and do not approach. They become very territorial this time of year which means they could charge. I also receive calls about blood on a bucks back legs. The inner dark area on the back legs are scent glands. When a Buck urinates he rubs his back legs together spreading the urine for scent. Some call it scent marking. It’s a way of communicating to other deer. Deer are more active this time of year because of the rut. Be cautious driving, keep your eyes on the side of the road and if you see one deer crossing slow down because there are always more coming.

The older they are the harder they are to catch. All winter my main call is about a fawn with diarrhea, malnourished etc... when a fawn loses its mother they don't know how to navigate their first winter alone. The diarrhea is usually caused by stress or eating something they normally wouldn't eat. I'm fortunate that I was able to get this guy before he lost to much weight. fuzzyfawnwildlife Today is Saturday restock day! If you would like to help me help them I greatly appreciate any support. It takes a village to care for the volume of deer I take in. For those who asked I'm putting the final touches on my 2027 calendar. It's hard to pick a handful of photos when you have thousands of them 😵‍💫 I’ll keep you posted as soon as I get them ready.

The Papillomavirus is benign skin tumors which are basically warts that are black/grey in color. The size vary from a small pea to large masses several inches wide. They can appear anywhere on the deer’s body. The virus only affects deer herds and cannot be transmitted to humans, pets, or livestock. The virus sometimes gets worse before they eventually fall off on their own. There is no treatment. The only time it causes harm to a deer is if they cover the deers eyes, mouth or nose making it difficult to navigate, eat or breathe. If they should become infected that also can kill a deer. The bacteria in the bloodstream will slowly decline a deer.
