FROM ROBERT'S WIFE:
Dear Friends,
Some of you may know that Robert Stymus my husband has kidney disease. Over time, his kidney disease has gotten worse, causing my kidneys not to work well enough to keep him alive. This is what he is facing now, and his treatment options are limited to dialysis treatments or a kidney transplant. He is has End Stage 5 Kidney Failure. Which means his kidneys no longer function.
Getting regular dialysis treatments, usually 7 times a week for 9 hours at a time, will help his kidneys do their job and keep him alive, but a transplant would offer him more freedom and the ability to live a longer, healthier, more normal life. A transplant would also give him more time to do the fun things we enjoy most, like spending time with his family and friends.
However, finding a kidney for a transplant is not easy. Just ask the 100,000+ people on the waiting list for a deceased donor kidney like me. Time is not on our side. Some wait for years; many die while waiting. The average wait time is five years or more for a kidney from a deceased donor. However, there is another option: receiving a kidney from a living donor.
Asking a family member or a friend to consider donating a kidney to me is difficult, but it greatly improves my chances of getting a transplant. A living kidney donation typically lasts longer and has better function. Please contact ECMC at 716-898-5001 or 716-898-4627 to speak to them about donating a kidney to him and also Strong memorial at 1-585-275-7753 Whitney Serwetnyk RN.
Please give his birth date 09/21/1956 and name. Any blood type is acceptable because they do kidney exchange programs that would allow him to receive a kidney transplant sooner. Please consider the gift of life. 18 to 70 in good health accepted. You can do it anonymous if you prefer. If you need any further advice please feel free to contact us directly Ginny Godfrey or Robert Stymus. Also Medicare covers you for 3 years after transplant no out of pocket expenses for your family or you and they cover travel costs and lost wages and childcare and lodging expenses just to name a few things.
