Allied Construction Industries ACI is a not-for-profit commercial construction trade association in Cincinnati, OH.

With more than 500 members, Allied Construction Industries (ACI) is a not-for-profit trade association serving the commercial construction industry in the Cincinnati Region. Established in 1929, membership includes both union and open shop employers, who are general contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, developers, material suppliers, and service providers to the commercial construction industry. Allied Construction Industries focuses on delivering workforce solutions that solve talent challenges, engaging in advocacy efforts that remove obstacles and create a climate of growth for the industry, and providing meaningful connections through networking opportunities.

The first ACI She Builds Golf Pro Session was a hit.
Every foursome for the ACI Fall Golf Outing was claimed weeks ago. That left the She Builds Pro Session as the one remaining way to join the day, and those spots filled fast too.
From 9:45 to 10:30 this morning, women from across the Cincinnati region's construction industry worked on their short game, swapped tips and built the kind of confidence that carries over to the next golf outing or industry event. Every skill level was welcome, and nobody needed a foursome to take part.
Proceeds from the ACI Fall Golf Outing support ACI She Builds Scholarships, which invests in the women who will lead this industry next.

A Workforce Win: Convening the Conversation, Part 2

Last week, ACI convened 11 construction training programs and nonprofit partners for Part 2 of the Construction Workforce Convening, following the first session in September. The conversation focused on gaps in the workforce ecosystem and opportunities to strengthen connections between training providers, employers, and postsecondary partners.

Training partners asked for help connecting their participants to employment, and employers asked for qualified talent. ACI assembled the room to spark solutions shaped by the organizations doing the work.

The goal is practical: clearer pathways from training to employment, so job seekers find careers and ACI members find the qualified talent they need across the Cincinnati MSA.

Paul Robinson, CEO of Pioneer Cladding & Glazing Systems LLC, joins YP Host John Westerkamp to talk about building a career through the trades. Paul skipped the traditional college route, completed an apprenticeship program, became a union glazier, and worked his way to the top of his company.

In this clip, he explains why hands-on learning fit him best and why the union and nonunion (open shop) paths are just "two different cars" headed to the same place.

A Workforce Win: Leading Through Conflict and Building Teams That Stay

Three sessions into the ACI Leadership in Construction Program, Cohort 2 has covered two of the hardest parts of running a crew.

Conflict - David Denny of Tetra Management walked participants through the four sources of conflict and the CARE model: clarify, actively listen, respect differences, and establish agreement. Then they practiced it through role-plays built from jobsite situations, like a delayed delivery or a safety shortcut.

Talent - Matthew Thomas with The Kleingers Group led a session on how to build and sustain strong teams, starting with the idea that leading others begins with leading yourself.

One participant summed up the conflict session this way: conflict can be good, but combat cannot.

A supervisor either holds a crew together or loses it. These sessions are where participants practice the difference.

Another Workforce Win! In September, 93 students at Shroder High School, North College Hill High School, Winton Woods High School, and Deer Park High School got their first introduction to a career in construction through ACI Youth Programming.

They learned what the industry builds across our region and the many careers it offers, from the job site to project management, estimating, and engineering. Next up is a return visit to each school, where ACI member volunteers will share what their work looks like day-to-day.
