Monico Luis and Manuela Recio Cisneros shared the belief that the future is determined by investment in education. He envisioned becoming a teacher but the Korean War intervened. When he returned from military service, he enrolled at Southwest Texas State University. With the love, devotion and support of Manuela, he obtained his education degree in 1958. d their children accompanying him. Following his retirement, they returned to Lockhart. Civic leadership positions afforded Monico Luis and Manuela opportunities to offer educational guidance, high expectations and confidence to many youths. They felt that bright high school students should not be denied a college education because they lacked the necessary resources and support. Their greatest pride was realized when students entered college, thus breaking generations-old patterns of bypassing higher education. In a rapidly changing world it is essential that educational opportunities and aid be made available to younger generations. An educated person is of great benefit to herself, himself, their communities and nation. This is what Monico Luis and Manuela Cisneros fostered. This is the legacy that will define them.
