Greetings, friends and supporters!
As the creator and founder of Good Intent Hose Company Off Road Run, I've been very active in the production and ex*****on of what was at one time the biggest and best off road poker run on the East Coast. When I first proposed the idea to the company, it was a revolutionary, and even daring, venture. Times were changing and we had to adapt our fundraising to meet the interest of the biggest crowd and were quite successful at it. As support from locals dwindled, we worked to try to keep the tradition alive by partnering with the very generous Famous Reading Outdoors and the late Brian Rich, Jr, who hosted the event at their venue for quite a few years. Now, thirteen years later, it appears that times are changing again, as our registered rider number dropped considerably and continues to do so. We continued to work to make a unique experience on familiar territory, and we put our absolute everything into doing just that for as long as we could.
Unfortunately, even with the best team supporting it, and the best supporters, some issues are out of our control. The insurance marketplace as a whole has been turned upside down over the past eighteen months. Our primary carrier, who has taken on the risk of the event since day one, stated they could no longer underwrite the event earlier this year. Additionally, our venues carrier, not the venue, made some extraneous requests that made our search for a supplemental carrier much more difficult. Our team, some with vast experiences in risk management and insurances, worked to find a carrier to underwrite the event, for a fiscally responsible amount, until as recently as yesterday.
As a non-profit organization, and more importantly as an organization who enlists the financial support of our community to carry out our primary mission, it is the responsibility of the organization to make all decisions in the most fiscally prudent manner to represent that same community. When the line-item cost of one single expense now approaches the majority of all expenses of the event, and, due to other soaring costs, expenses as a whole reach 75% of the projected revenue of the event, the fiscally responsible decision is to not hold the event, especially one with so much risk is involved.
This evening, the members of this organization decided it is no longer a fiscally responsible decision to continue running the event at this time, and we would officially CANCEL the 2023 Good Intent Hose Company Off Road Run. This is not to say it won't happen again; it's just not happening this year. Refunds for those who have pre-registered will be issued in the next few days, and all monies donated for sponsorships are also being returned by those who collected them. If by July 19th you have not received your refund, please contact us. The ticketing system is cumbersome, and we want to make sure you are taken care of in a timely manner.
I want to take this moment to personally thank each and every person who was involved with the event since its inception and offer continued thanks for putting your faith in a couple of guys with a weird idea for a fundraiser and apparently a knack for pulling off large scale events without a hitch!
On a happier note, since we have entertainment and food trucks booked already, we're looking to utilize them for another event on the company grounds on that same day. Once we have finalized those details, they will be posted through the company social media channels.
Thanks for the memories and the continued support!
