The first Felician Sisters arrived as strangers in a new country. Yet they quickly became a source of welcome for others, serving immigrants, children, and families who often felt overlooked or forgotten.

Their example reminds us that hospitality is more than opening a door. It is opening our hearts.

The Felician theme "Widening Our Tent" calls us to create spaces where others feel valued, respected, and included. Every person we encounter carries a unique story and inherent dignity.

On this Feast Day of Blessed Mary Angela, foundress of the Felician Sisters, we share some of her words of encouragement. It may seem like simple advice, but imagine the impact on our world if we could all live up to it!

Here at Angela Hospice, we are blessed by the strong foundation and values that Blessed Mary Angela and the Felician Sisters built, which continue to inspire us as we carry out our caring work.

In regard to loving our neighbors, Blessed Mary Angela went on to explain, "In order to acquire this virtue, make a meditation about the love of neighbor, do a lot of reading on this topic, and make an examination of conscience; do this for a whole month."

This FREE hospice educational seminar will include a morning session geared toward healthcare professionals (breakfast is included and CEUs are available), and the afternoon session will be geared toward the general public (lunch is included).

We still have a few spots available for Early Grief, our 8-week virtual grief support series that starts this Wednesday, October 7. The group will meet weekly on Wednesday from 2-3 p.m. ET through November 25.

Early Grief is intended for those who lost a loved one within the past 12 months. It's free to join and open to community members, thanks to the generous supporters of Angela Hospice.

During Mission and Heritage Week, October 4 – October 10, the Felician Sisters of North America celebrate their mission, ministry and heritage. This annual week-long celebration commences on the Feast Day of St. Francis, October 4th, and concludes on the Feast Day of Blessed Mary Angela, October 10th.

All throughout this month we’ll be sharing stories of the five pioneering Felician Sisters who founded the North American province, and reflections to help us on our own journeys of growth and service to others.

✝️ MOTHER MARY MONICA SYBILSKA ✝️
In 1874, Mother Mary Monica Sybilska and four Felician Sisters left behind everything familiar in Poland and journeyed across the ocean to a land they had never seen. Their mission was clear: to serve those in need and bring God's love to people they had never met.

Imagine the courage that required. They carried few possessions, spoke little English, and faced an uncertain future. Yet they trusted that God was already preparing the way.

Inspired by the Felician theme of “Widening Our Tent,” we are reminded that every expansion begins with courage. Welcoming new ideas, new colleagues, new responsibilities, and new relationships often means stepping into the unknown.

REFLECTION: Where is God inviting me to take a courageous step to widen my tent and welcome something new?
