Congratulations to The Arc of Northwest Wayne County for being selected as one of our 2026 Grant Recipients! 💙💛
The Arc of Northwest Wayne County received a grant to support the development of a welcoming and accessible Resource Center designed to help individuals and families navigate intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) services across Livonia and surrounding communities. As a grassroots nonprofit founded in 1961, The Arc NW has long been dedicated to building inclusive communities through advocacy, support, and information for people with disabilities and their families.
Serving Livonia, Canton, Plymouth, Redford, Garden City, Northville, Dearborn, and Dearborn Heights, The Arc NW provides lifelong advocacy and essential services that empower individuals with I/DD to live self-determined, fully included lives. Their programs - including the Lekotek Play Program and Toy Lending Library, Financial Management Services, education and behavioral health advocacy, and social and athletic programming - support individuals at every stage of life while strengthening family stability and community inclusion. Through its new Resource Center initiative, The Arc NW is expanding access to trusted, centralized information that helps families quickly connect to services, understand complex systems, and take the next steps in supporting their loved ones.
With roughly 30% of the 1,100 individuals served annually coming from Livonia, The Arc NW plays a vital role in supporting local families navigating disability-related needs, especially during times of uncertainty following a diagnosis or major life transition. This grant will help furnish and complete the new Resource Center space, including a functional reception area, display materials, and seating that make the space welcoming, practical, and easy to use for visitors seeking guidance. Once completed, the Resource Center will serve as a first point of connection for families, helping them access accurate information, attend Lunch and Learn sessions, and engage more deeply with The Arc NW’s advocacy and support services.
Through this project, The Arc of Northwest Wayne County continues its mission of ensuring that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities - and the families who support them - have access to clear information, meaningful advocacy, and a strong pathway to community inclusion.
