August 5th Summer meeting….. Plymouth Cultural center… MFFC business meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. EST, learn about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, hear fishing reports, and general Club information. The featured speaker / tyer will start around 8:00 p.m. EST.

Cleyo Harris is a Senior Fisheries Biologist with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) Fisheries Division, based in Waterford, MI. He has been working for the MDNR Fisheries Division for over 25 years, serving as a Fisheries Technician in the Lake Erie Management Unit and have activities which involves lake and stream survey techniques, fish stocking programs, sampling protocol development, habitat management and stakeholder engagement.

The Lake Erie Management Unit (LEMU) encompasses all of the waters that drain into Lake Erie. The area includes all or portions of the following counties: Hillsdale, Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Sanilac, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. The LEMU covers a diverse array of inland waters and nearshore Lake Erie from a field office located in Waterford.

The areas Cleyo is responsible for are: St. Clair, Black, Belle, Pine, Salt & Clinton River watersheds. His topic of discussion will focus on the Clinton River watershed and the past work that the MDNR has done and what future efforts will be coming to that area.

July 29th: Bishop Lake Public Boat Launch, Brighton, MI

Bishop Lake is a scenic 109-acre inland lake within the Brighton Recreation Area in Livingston County, Michigan, about an hour northwest of Detroit and near the city of Brighton shorelinescout.com. It’s part of a 4,947-acre state park offering nine lakes, five campgrounds, boating access, and extensive trails.

Nearby: west of U.S. 23, south of I‑96; accessible from Ann Arbor, Lansing, and Metro Detroit
Entry: Michigan Recreation Passport or day-use fee required for vehicle entry and boat launches
Boating & Paddling: one paved boat launch with 15 trailer spots; no-wake/small-craft lake ideal for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards
Fishing: largemouth bass (up to ~3.7 lbs) and panfish; shallow, weedy habitat makes it good for kayak fishing
Kayak Rentals: available at the lake

Thank you to everyone that came out to the Michigan Fly Fishing Club's Picnic today at Multi Lakes Conservation Club. A few of us went fishing on Reed Lake (kayaks and dock fishing), we caught fish and the winds made it interesting for sure. Thank you to John Eriksson for hosting the Picnic, it was a great time. This coming Wednesday July 15th, is the 5th Stop on the "Non-Meeting Wednesdays on the Water" and we will be at Newburgh Lake. Water looks great and fishing/kayak ramp is out at Newburgh Pointe and fishing dock is also out at Sumac just east of Newburgh Pointe. Pictures were taken on Monday July 13th. We will be out there from usually 3:30pm/4pm till dusk (park closes). If you want to join us, please do. Hope to see you out there!!! Make sure to bring a lot water and sunscreen.
