This is a bittersweet post to write…
On August 31, a very meaningful chapter for The Family Village came to a close as our job as the “My Community Cares” organization has concluded.
To every staff member who has been part of this work, past and present, THANK YOU. You gave families your time, patience, creativity, and heart. So much of what you did happened in the background, in moments most people never saw, but it was powerful. Together we have helped HUNDREDS of families stay together, build together and even reunify! I am so so proud of the work we’ve done as an organization!
I especially want to thank Rebecca Braun. Rebecca helped me get this work started and then worked incredibly hard to keep it going and make it successful. I will always be grateful for everything she sacrificed and poured into TFV and to the families we served. Because she trusted me and loved TFV fiercely is the only way this even came to be for so long. Under her leadership TFV received some of the highest ratings! So thank you, so much, for always having our back and for loving TFV like it’s your baby (one of many!) ♥️
I also want to thank Southeastern Louisiana University and Discover/RENEW for believing in us and giving our small organization the opportunity to show what we could do. Dr. Guinn has taught me so many things over the years. I am especially grateful for her partnership and friendship.
As this chapter closes, our work will begin to look a little different. TFV is still here, but we are returning to a smaller and more focused role, primarily on foster parents and those in Livingston Parish.
We know people have grown used to calling TFV whenever a family needs something, and that trust means more to us than we can say. At the same time, we will no longer have the staff or resources to be the answer for everything. We are no longer the regional provider under this contract, so we may not be the right call for needs and referrals we previously handled.
We are not going anywhere. We are simply taking a sec, narrowing our focus and figuring out what this next chapter will look like... We can’t wait to tell you what’s next!!!
For now, we are proud of what we built, deeply grateful for everyone who helped build it and thankful for every family who trusted us along the way! 🩵🩵
