As Artist Laureate Parks Reece said, "If you're having fun, it's gonna be good!" Parks instructed a wonderful fingerpainting class to 18 Gardiner High School students last week. We love that youth, art teacher Alisa McLaughlin, and PCCArts volunteers experimented with limitless techniques and experienced creative flow.

Fingerpainting was developed by Ruth Faison Shaw. Parks learned how to fingerpaint at a very early age from his mother, who was a professional artist and knew Shaw. Shaw was motivated to instruct children the joys of painting without letting tools intimidate her students. She devised paints that are nontoxic, have a creamy consistency, and are a joy to work with. Parks own art practice illustrates that fingerpainting is not just for children; he often uses fingerpainting as the background for his paintings today.

Fingerpainting with PCCArts first Artist Laureate Parks Reece will continue around the county this spring for students and senior citizens. He's been teaching fingerpainting to area students for thirty years.

Painting or any creative endeavor doesn't have to be a big production--JDI (Just Do It). Your mind, body, and soul will thank you for it.

They say Livingston is a town held together by wind and prose, so it’s only fitting that Terry Tempest Williams is drifting in to stir the dust. Last night wasn't just a book talk; it was a collective exhalation. Terry Tempest Williams sat with us and navigated the rugged geography of her new book, The Glorians, reminding us that while the world may be breaking, it is also breaking open. In her hands, prose becomes a prayer, and the theater became a vessel for everything we’ve been afraid to say out loud about the land and our legacy.

To those who shared the space: may you carry that "wild mercy" back into your own backyards. And to those who missed it: keep your eyes on the horizon. The echoes of her words are still vibrating in the walls of the Empire.

Getting "sketchy" in Livingston has never looked so good. 🎨✨

The Danforth has a long-standing tradition of keeping the arts alive and well in Park County. The Danforth is celebrating that rich history with their latest Life Drawing exhibition, showcasing the raw talent that comes out of our community classes.

From quick gestures to deeply studied anatomical masterpieces, the walls are currently sporting some serious "figure-ative" flair. Whether you’re a seasoned pro who knows their way around a charcoal stick or someone who still struggles with drawing the "other eye," you will enjoy seeing what has been drawn at the Danforth.

Come for the tradition, stay for the remarkably quiet atmosphere and the occasional existential crisis over hand proportions.

📍 Visit us in Livingston to see the exhibition or sign up for a class and become part of the Danforth’s artistic legacy. Wear your best beret (optional, but encouraged for the vibes).

In the intersection of bronze and biology, few artists navigate the "emotional landscape" of the West as profoundly as George Bumann. Based at the northern gateway of Yellowstone in Gardiner, Bumann is a rare breed: an elected member of the National Sculpture Society whose aesthetic is forged by master’s-level training in wildlife ecology.

From a critical standpoint, Bumann’s work transcends traditional "wildlife art." He avoids the static, carbon-copy perfection of taxidermy, opting instead for a deep landscape of gesture and nuance. He captures the specific "individual character" of animals he has known for generations in the wild.

His style reflects a commitment to the classical animalier tradition while leaning into an impressionistic touch that captures the "overlooked magic" of everyday wild life. His use of bronze creates a permanent home for fleeting moments—the "hunger-sharp hip bones" of a wintering cow or the specific tilt of a wolf's head.

Bumann’s artistic output is inseparable from his role as an animal language expert. He views his studio as the entire Yellowstone ecosystem, often spending whole days on a single hill "watching, listening, and smelling" the park as it "unfolds like an onion".

Where to Find Him:
His sculptures reside in the permanent collections of the National Museum of Wildlife Art and the C.M. Russell Museum. In Park County, his presence is felt not just in his studio, but in his deep commitment to environmental stewardship and education. @
