Mr. Brett’s Youth Enrichment Program Saves the Yellowstone River!
Okay, maybe not the whole river.
But Studio49 Youth Enrichment student Emerson might have helped protect it.
After learning about invasive fish species during a lesson with Mr. Brett, Emerson spotted a suspicious fish in the Livingston Lagoon and let him know. One call to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks later, biologists confirmed it was a spotted bass—the first one documented in the lagoon.
Why does that matter? If invasive bass become established, they could threaten native trout populations and eventually impact the Yellowstone River ecosystem.
We’re proud of Emerson for paying attention, speaking up, and putting what he learned into action. It’s a great reminder that when young people are connected to their community and empowered with knowledge, they can make a real difference.
👏 Nice work, Emerson!
