Summer officially begins tomorrow, June 21st, and there is nothing like an Alabama summer!

Our state is filled with beautiful landscapes, fascinating wildlife, and the nicest people anywhere. Whatever your plans may be for the summer, there are so many things you can do right in your own backyard. From visiting a local farmers market and starting a container garden to spotting pollinators and attending an Extension event, there are plenty of ways to learn, explore, and enjoy everything that Alabama has to offer.

Longleaf pine forests are among the most biodiverse ecosystems in North America, supporting hundreds of plant and animal species—including many found nowhere else—and more than 40 species listed as threatened or endangered.

These forests also protect clean water, support recreation and local economies, and help buffer military installations from encroaching development, making their restoration critical.

That’s why we’re proud to continue this work for a fifth year with Bezos Earth Fund, advancing efforts through the Longleaf Landscape Stewardship Fund to help restore and conserve longleaf habitat across the Southeast.

PAIS and the West Alabama Center for Conservation & Agriculture will be hosting a meeting of the Central Alabama Prescribed Burn Assocation at ALFA Environmental Hall on Tuesday, June 23. The meeting will run from 8:30 till 3:30, with sessions on hazard fuel reduction, wildlife habitat improvement, endangered species, and much more! A catered lunch will be provided.
