Why Attend FlyFest? Because Learning Happens Up Close.

There’s something different about watching a master tier in person.

The details.
The materials.
The history and application of the pattern.

At FlyFest, tying demos and seminars aren’t just performances, they’re conversations. You can ask questions. See techniques clearly. Understand how patterns evolve and why they work.

Whether you tie commercially, for fun, or are just getting started, you’ll walk away with ideas you can use immediately.

It’s inspiration you can hold in your hands and it’s what FlyFest is all about.  Join us September 24-26 in Redding, CA.

Calling all FFI Club and Council leaders, volunteers, and members!

This year, FlyFest 2026 includes an all-new Council & Club Day: a full day dedicated to helping your club grow, engage members, develop future leaders, and connect with fellow FFI leaders from across North America.

On Thursday, September 24, join us at the Redding Civic Auditorium for an interactive program featuring practical workshops on:

▪️Successful club practices and member engagement
▪️Membership recruitment, retention, leadership development, and succession planning
▪️Social media, websites, newsletters, and communication strategies
▪️FFI resources, partnerships, and programs available to support your club

This isn't a series of lectures, it's an opportunity to share ideas, learn proven strategies from successful clubs and councils, and leave with practical tools you can put to work immediately.

Then, keep the conversations going at the FlyFest Welcome Party from 5:00 p.m. until dusk, where you'll enjoy an evening of music, great food, and the chance to reconnect with old friends while meeting new ones from across the fly fishing community.

Whether you're a club president, board member, volunteer, or simply passionate about strengthening your local fly fishing community, Council & Club Day is for you.

Have you checked out July's Fly of the Month?

This month, we're featuring the Boreal Caddis by Larry Olson. This pattern is a simple, effective attractor pattern inspired by the classic Elk Hair Caddis and updated with modern synthetic materials. Designed to ride low in the surface film with just the right amount of sparkle, it's easy to see on the water, easy to tie, and a great addition to any fly box.

Larry says he tied the first version on a cold autumn evening while the northern lights danced outside his window, a fitting inspiration for a fly that reflects the spirit of northern waters.

Find the complete tying pattern, materials list, and more Fly of the Month patterns on flyfishersinternational.org.

A major victory for Michigan's rivers.

An Administrative Law Judge has recommended that the Michigan Public Service Commission reject Consumers Energy's proposed sale of 13 hydroelectric dams on the Au Sable, Grand, Kalamazoo, Manistee, and Muskegon Rivers to an out-of-state private equity firm. The ruling concludes that the sale is not in the public interest, citing concerns over higher costs for ratepayers, dam safety, and the long-term health of these iconic fisheries.

Fly Fishers International's Great Lakes Council welcomed the recommendation, calling it an important step toward protecting Michigan's rivers and the world-class angling opportunities they provide.

The Michigan Public Service Commission is expected to make its final decision September 2026.
