For the 110 members of the Livingston Lions Club, their weekly meetings are much more than an opportunity to network with other businessmen and women; it’s an opportunity to improve the quality of life for the poor, the sick, the handicapped and the aged. Club members (ranging in age from 22 up) work together on a number of programs that include: SUMMER CAMP FOR LOCAL YOUTHS; RELAY FOR LIFE; THE Y

OUTH RODEO; AND THE CONCESSION STAND FOR THE HOMECOMING FOOTBALL GAME. In the past we donated $50,000 toward the development of the Polk County College/ Commerce Center. And this year we have budgeted $7,000 to provide eye exams and glasses for about 100 Polk Countians. Community-based organizations that get financial support from the Livingston Lions Club include: the Boys and Girls Club, SAAFE House, Godtel, Mannafest, CASA, Habitat for Humanity, Youth Baseball, Youth Softball, Youth Soccer, Little Dribblers, Childrenz Haven, SPCA, and 5-$500 Green and White Scholarships. Lions Club International has over 1.8 million members around the world. LISD Athletic Director Coach Carter highlighted the success of Lions Athletics during the Livingston Lions Club lunch meeting last week. Coach Carter introduced UIL powerlifting state champion Maddy Allen and UIL state golf competitors Brayden Akers and Maddie Akers.
