We received this from the OSFM:

On June 22nd, the Office of State Fire Marshal will launch a new online portal to request inspections, submit plans, and manage licensure.

The State Fire Marshal's IMS system will be taken offline starting at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2026. Our new online service portal, EPR Fireworks, will go live at 8 a.m., Monday, June 22, 2026, on lasfm.org

The transition to EPR Fireworks for the end user is expected to only require updating your password. Additional instructions on how to use the new system will be made available on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the launch.

Artificial Intelligence is changing the way sales professionals connect with customers, prepare proposals, and identify opportunities. From researching prospects to creating customized communications, AI can help life safety and property protection companies work more efficiently and spend more time building customer relationships.

The key? Use AI as a tool—not a replacement for industry expertise and personal service. The companies that successfully combine technology with trusted customer relationships will be well-positioned for future growth.

Many Louisiana life safety and property protection companies focus on licensing, training, and compliance—but overlook a critical requirement: advertising compliance.

Did you know Louisiana regulations require licensed firms to include their certificate of registration number on advertising materials? Depending on your endorsement, that may include your website, social media, business cards, bids, letterhead, vehicle graphics, yard signs, and more.

Before your next marketing campaign goes live, take a few minutes to review your materials and make sure you're meeting State Fire Marshal requirements.

Your contract may be one of the most important tools protecting your business.

A properly written Limits of Liability clause helps define risk, establish customer expectations, and protect life safety and property protection companies from potentially devastating claims. But simply having a contract isn't enough—you need to understand what it says and ensure it complies with Louisiana law.

HB 917 has officially been signed by the Governor as ACT 682 with an effective date of 8/1/2026. This legislation represents one of the most significant updates in recent years to Louisiana’s Life Safety & Property Protection licensing structure under the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

ACT 682 will:
✔ Extend licenses from 1 year to 3 years
✔ Reduce licensing burdens on administrative staff
✔ Limit background checks to qualifiers and company principals
✔ Recognize certain remote technical support roles
✔ Update renewal, reinstatement, and fee procedures

For Louisiana’s life safety and property protection professionals, these changes are designed to modernize licensing while maintaining the strong regulatory standards that help keep Louisiana the “Gold Standard” for licensing and consumer protection.

📢 Louisiana alarm companies: Do you know whether your monitoring services are taxable?

LLSSA recently received guidance from the Louisiana Department of Revenue on alarm monitoring, telecommunications services, resale certificates, refunds, and sales tax reporting. The key takeaway: there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Taxability depends on the specific services and agreements involved.

⚠️ Before signing your next contract, take a close look at any indemnification and insurance requirements.

Customers are increasingly requesting additional liability protections that could create significant exposure for your company. Make sure you understand what you're agreeing to and confirm your insurance coverage can support those obligations.

If you end up indemnifying the subscriber, you’d better also name the subscriber as an additional insured and try to limit your liability.

Before recommending cameras, access control, intrusion detection, or fire protection upgrades, are you asking the right questions?

A strong risk assessment is the foundation of every successful life safety and property protection solution. Understanding what assets need protection, identifying potential threats, evaluating likelihood, and measuring the consequences of a loss event helps ensure that recommendations are based on actual risk—not assumptions.

For Louisiana life safety and security professionals, taking the time to assess risks first leads to better system designs, stronger client relationships, and more effective protection strategies. The best solutions don't start with products—they start with understanding the problem.
