The whole country just lost the one person that actually brought us all together.

Her nephew announced it on her own accounts this afternoon: she died peacefully in Nashville at 80, with no cause given, a year and a half after losing Carl, her husband of 59 years.

Just days ago she was telling People about the "hard times" her health had given her since his death — still working, still promoting, still Dolly to the last hour.

The fourth of twelve kids from a cabin in the Smokies wrote the radical stuff in sequins so radio wouldn't notice.

"Just Because I'm a Woman" called out the double standard in 1968.
"Down From Dover" told the truth about u***d pregnancy when stations refused to play it.
"9 to 5" turned typing-pool rage into a #1 hit and a labor anthem that never retired.

By her own telling, she wrote "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You" in one afternoon — the latter to walk away from the man who controlled her career, so sweetly he thanked her.

Off the record charts: 250+ million books to kids through the Imagination Library.
A million dollars to Vanderbilt that helped birth a COVID vaccine.
Two refusals of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, because she didn't perform for administrations.
Dollywood's gates open to everyone, full stop, in East Tennessee, decades before that was easy.

Left, right, church pew, drag brunch — everybody claimed her, and she let them all.

Biggest tent in America.
One small woman holding it up.
Sing something pretty up there, Dolly.
We will always love you.

If you're the parent or caregiver of a child who experienced sexual abuse, taking care of yourself is part of taking care of your child.

Supporting a child survivor takes courage, patience, and consistency. Self-care helps sustain the resilience adults need to create a safe, stable environment where a child can heal.

Self-care doesn't have to be complex or expensive. It's as straightforward as:

• Processing your own emotions
• Seeking support or therapy
• Maintaining routines that support your own stability
• Setting boundaries to protect your family’s peace and safety
