Beginning with pond water from N America’s oldest oilfield, filtered through fool’s gold, slowing transformed into iron sulfate - the active ingredient in ocean geoengineering - this piece traces the technological ‘fixes’ for ecological collapse. At its center: a seed vault of invasive tree of heaven. Above it, satellite imagery of the only unsanctioned ocean fertilization experiment ever conducted.
