Reshaping the Texas Prison System for Better Public Safety: An Inside View from a Texas Lifer

It has often been said that those who are closest to a problem are closest to its solution. That is no less true for those who are in prison. Prisoners see things that need to be changed within the prison system—things that escape the attention of people in society, politics, and upper-level pris....

First and foremost, I wish to thank State Representative Giovanni Capriglione, Southlake, for meeting us at the TDCJ SUMMIT and officially swearing in our new TX CURE Youth Ambassador Directors.

IF ANYONE IS IN HIS DISTRICT, PLEASE REACH OUT AND THANK HIM FOR HIS SUPPORT!!! HECK, EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT, REACH OUT ANYWAY, HE IS A WONDERFUL MAN!!!! https://www.facebook.com/VoteGiovanni

INTRODUCING our YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM under the direction and supervision of myself, assisted by AJ Robinson, Director of Programming and Family Education and our other Board Members as we progress.

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Ethan, Bre and Genesis.
It is our mission to reach out specifically to the kids of incarcerated parents between the ages of 8-18. Our goal will be to educate them; provide peer support; develop child-parent programs that support family bonding during incarceration; dealing with the incarcerated lifestyle as it relates to children with limited access to a parent; preparation for parole, such as, how to create a support letter from the dependent's perspective; and legislative affairs.

This will be a Statewide program and these young Directors have said they are willing to undertake the task. I do not believe there is anything like this in Texas.

If you have an incarcerated LO and a child, between 8 and 18 who you think would enjoy getting involved, please reach out. This is ground floor so we will be building this house from the ground up. I ask for your patience there. I have divided the State in half, creating North and South sections.

Under each section, we will be creating regional chapters then, in time, narrowing it down to local prison area family chapters with the end goal there of getting the kids engaged and creating family and peer bonding and mentoring in preparation for release.

AS THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS, STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES

Please join our Director of Government & Legislative Affairs, C.A. Malouff, and other TX CURE Inc Directors at TDCJ’s SUMMIT *this* Saturday, May 21 in Southlake, Texas!

Mark your calendars, the TDCJ Summit will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.!

Gateway Church is graciously hosting the event at The King’s University Campus, located at 2121 East Southlake Boulevard, Southlake, Texas.

Similar to the former PACT (Public Awareness – Corrections Today) Conference, leaders will assemble to offer presentations related to current events. Partner agencies and TDCJ division representatives will be available for questions. Anyone who would like to learn more about criminal justice is invited to attend, including inmate families, advocates, community leaders, prison ministries, and those with an interest in volunteering or learning about our employment opportunities.

Historically, PACT events were scheduled on an annual basis. As we plan TDCJ Summits, we will explore offering future events in different regions of the state on a more frequent basis.

There is no advance registration process or related attendance fee. For event updates and announcements, email [email protected]
