Su***de Prevention Month: Together for Hope and Healing
Every September, communities across the nation observe Su***de Prevention Month—a time dedicated to raising awareness, breaking stigma, and reminding each of us that hope and help are always within reach.
Su***de is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a community affected. The good news is that su***de is preventable. By starting conversations, spreading resources, and showing compassion, we can save lives.
Recognizing the Signs
Warning signs may include talking about wanting to die, withdrawing from friends or activities, sudden mood changes, or giving away personal belongings. Recognizing these signals can be the first step toward offering support.
How We Can Help
Prevention starts with connection. Asking someone directly if they are struggling, listening without judgment, and guiding them to professional help can make a powerful difference. Simple acts of kindness and presence often bring hope when it feels lost.
Resources Available
If you or someone you know is in crisis, help is available:
• Call or text 988 for the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline
• Text HELLO to 741741 to connect with the Crisis Text Line
• In emergencies, dial 911 immediately
Moving Forward Together
Su***de Prevention Month is more than awareness—it’s about action. This month and every month, let us commit to speaking up, supporting one another, and ensuring no one feels alone in their struggle.
Together, we can turn awareness into hope, and hope into healing.
