💔 I NEED Y'ALL'S HELP. I HAVE TO LAY MY MAMA TO REST. $475 NEEDED. 💔
Y'all, today has absolutely destroyed me.
I lost my Mama today, and I am not ok.
For those who don't know, Mama was my 30-year-old mare, my very first horse rescue, and the matriarch of my entire animal family for the last 10 years. She was the matriarch long before Happy Endings Sanctuary of Texas ever existed, and she continued to be after I started the sanctuary.
She was here before Happy Endings even had a name. She's been through it all with me.
Ten years ago, Mama was owned by a kill buyer and headed to slaughter. She had lost her foal just TWO DAYS before I rescued her.
Two days.
She had just lost her baby, and she was about to lose her own life.
I brought her home, and that horse spent the next 10 years being a mama to every damn soul that came through here.
Horses, donkeys, dogs, cats, chickens, goats. She didn't care what you were. If you needed a mama, she was it.
And she mothered me too.
I can't even begin to explain what that horse meant to me. She was my girl. My constant. She was there through some of the absolute worst times of my life.
I rescued her, but in a lot of ways, she rescued me right back.
And today I watched her die.
I had gone to the feed store this morning, and when I got back, something was terribly wrong. She was stumbling, trembling, flinching and tensing up. Then she went down in the mud in the pig pen and started thrashing around.
And just like that, she was gone.
It was almost exactly what happened when I lost Sir Cotton of Narnia, my senior rescue Welsh pony.
I couldn't save him, and today I couldn't save her either.
I don't know how long she had been struggling before I got there. I don't know what happened to my girl. All I know is that I watched her take her last breath, and there's not a damn thing I can do to change it.
And now, while I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she's gone, I have to figure out how to bury her.
And I need help.
I've contacted Hendrix Heavy Machinery Rentals about getting an excavator out here so I can bury Mama on the property she's called home for the last 10 years.
The cost is $475 for delivery, rental and same-day pickup. Unfortunately, they can't come today.
My friend Karl has already stepped up and offered to come operate the excavator for me, free of charge.
Karl, thank you. Seriously. I don't even have the words right now. That means more to me than you know.
So we have someone to run the equipment. I just need to come up with the $475 to rent it.
I'm going to be completely transparent with y'all.
I just paid my mortgage and bills, and money is extremely tight right now. I wasn't expecting to lose Mama today. I wasn't prepared for this emotionally, mentally or financially.
I've spent the last 10 years making sure Mama and every other soul here has what they need, and now I'm sitting here asking for help to take care of my girl one last time.
I know I'm always asking for help with feed, hay, vet bills and everything else it takes to keep this place going. And believe me, I hate having to ask for one more thing.
But today I'm not asking for help to keep an animal alive.
I'm asking for help to bury the horse who helped me build this sanctuary.
And I cannot tell y'all how much that hurts.
If 95 people could spare just $5, we'd have the $475 needed.

Right now Mama is still lying where she took her last breath.
Domino, Lady Jane, Littles and Biggie Smalls have been surrounding her. I don't know what goes through their minds, but I know they know something is wrong. They've lost their Mama too.
And seeing them standing around her is absolutely killing me.
I need to get my girl laid to rest.
I want her right here at home. On the land where she spent the last 10 years being loved, spoiled and mothering every animal that crossed her path.
I know she was 30 years old. I know that's a long life for a horse. I know I gave her 10 years she might not have had if I hadn't brought her home.
BUT DAMMIT, THAT DOESN'T MAKE THIS HURT ANY LESS.
I wasn't ready.
I wasn't ready to lose the horse who started this whole journey with me. I wasn't ready to look out there and not see her. I wasn't ready to say goodbye.
And I sure as hell wasn't ready to be figuring out how to bury her today.
Ten years ago, I brought home a mare who had just lost her baby and was headed for slaughter.
She spent the next 10 years being a mama to everyone, including me.
I couldn't save her today. But I can damn sure make sure she gets to stay home forever.
Please help me do this one last thing for my girl.
Thank you to Karl for stepping up, and thank you to everyone who has reached out, donated, shared or simply sent me some love today.
I'm doing the best I can right now, but I'm going to be honest.
Today broke me. 💔
