You are invited to the 125 years of the Centennial Light Bulb Celebration!

LAA is partnering with the Livermore Heritage Guild and the City of Livermore for the upcoming 150th Anniversary of Livermore. Artists are invited to experience and interpret one of the city’s most iconic treasures, the Centennial Light, the world’s longest-burning light bulb (since 1901!).

We’re excited to share a unique and inspiring opportunity to create artwork rooted in Livermore’s history and innovation!

This event is expected to receive national and possibly international attention, celebrating Livermore’s world-famous Centennial Light Bulb the longest-burning light bulb in the world.

🎨Meet our new Guest Artist, Tonja Caponigro!

For the next two months, Tonja’s charming collection of animal paintings and hand-painted rocks will be featured at the gallery. Using acrylics and watercolors on a variety of surfaces, her work captures the beauty of nature through detailed butterflies, birds, frogs, foxes, dragonflies, and whimsical landscapes. 🦋🐸🪨✨

Many of her pieces are inspired by the joy she finds painting outdoors on her patio, bringing a playful and peaceful energy to every creation.

Stop by the gallery to see these one-of-a-kind miniature treasures in person!

WATERCOLOR ON YUPO: SUBTRACTIVE PAINTING
This workshop is ideal for artists of all skill and experience levels. Beginners will
discover how to create a finished painting without tedious attention to detail and the inherent desire to produce a piece that looks just like what they see in front of them. Those who’ve been painting for years and might be feeling just a bit bored with what they’ve been doing, or are feeling the need to ‘loosen up’, will appreciate the playfulness of this approach.

Watercolor on Yupo (a polypropylene surface) lends itself to the technique of
subtractive painting: lifting pigment to define the image and bring back the white of the surface. It’s ideal for lots of subject matter: flowers, fruit and vegetables, buildings, animals, etc. It can be used to lift pigment around the subject, or it can be used to lift pigment to develop the subject, such as white flowers or buildings or swans.
The goals of this workshop are: get introduced to and excited about something new and have fun!
