He was promoted to Fire Captain in 2019 and served as an Acting Battalion Chief in 2025 and 2026.

He contributed his knowledge and experience through the Training Committee, Tractor Drawn Aerial Cadre, CAL-JAC Subcommittee, Truck Operations Committee, and Budget Committee. He supported his brothers and sisters through his work with the Peer Support Team, represented the department with pride as a member of the Honor Guard, helped develop future firefighters as the 2015 and 2016 Fire Academy Assistant Coordinator and State Fire Training Instructor, and served with FEMA Urban Search and Rescue California Task Force 4 (CA-TF4) from 2014 to 2026.
Reflecting on his career, Chris shared:
"I am very humbled, grateful, and appreciative to have had such a wonderful fire service career. I am beyond words when it comes to trying to thank everyone who I have met along the way…”
Chris leaves behind a legacy built on leadership, mentorship, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to the fire service. His impact will continue through the many firefighters he has trained, mentored, and served alongside.
In his farewell message to the men and women of LPFD, Chris reminded everyone:
"You are a part of the greatest profession and part of a great organization. The men and women of the LPFD are second to none."
"Take care of yourselves, and of each other. Remember, we are just ordinary people, doing an extraordinary job!!! Train like your life depends on it, because it does!"
Captain Jesberg from all of us at IAFF Local 1974 we salute you for your 34 years of dedication, leadership, and service.
