We're celebrating Florida Arbor Day NEXT Saturday, January 17 with a Florida elm tree giveaway for SVEC members. 150 trees will be available at our co-op on a first-come, first served basis, beginning at 9:00 a.m., while supplies last.

This native tree provides beautiful fall colors and is considered is a great choice when choosing a long-living shade tree. Capable of reaching 60-80 feet in height, Florida elm trees must be planted farther than that from overhead power lines.

There is a limit of one tree per membership and proof of membership must be provided, such as a current SVEC bill or SmartHub account.

Do you manage a small farm or a farm that is still in its beginning stages?

Since starting farming, have you felt like you had so many questions that you do not know which ones to ask first?
Whenever you find an answer, does it lead to many other questions?

You are not alone!

Join the Suwannee Small & Beginner Grower Alliance to meet farmers that have had the same questions as you.

Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. We ask that you call to let us know if you are attending.

Hi Members,

On the first Tuesday of each month, your Garden Club will amaze (or annoy) you with some clever gardening tricks, some interesting facts, and perhaps some silly gardening ideas on what we are calling "Gardening Tips Tuesdays". So get ready, set, and here we go!

- Never fertilize bone-dry soils of your house plants. Moisten soil a bit first so that salts don't concentrate and burn roots.

- Many plants, such as the spider plant or snake plant, naturally filter toxins from the air. They are like nature’s air purifiers, helping to reduce pollutants in your home or garden.

- Peanuts are not nuts, but legumes related to beans and lentils. They have more protein, niacin, folate, and phytosterols than any nut, according to the National Peanut Board.

- What did the grape say when it got stepped on? Nothing, it just let out a little wine!

If you have any tips to share with us, please let us know.

Thanks - Lucille

P.S. Don't forget our "Potting Party" at the clubhouse on Wednesday, September 10th at 10 AM. Wear old clothes (we'll be working outdoors) and overgrown plants for dividing, pots, gloves, clippers, potting soil, etc.

Work day memo

I hope this e-mail finds you and your family well and everyone has enjoyed their summer.

It's that time of year that we return to our monthly work days around the club. We will start our work day on Friday, September 12th at 8:00 AM and try to conclude before noon. We are asking all able bodied individuals to be at the clubhouse to work as a team on maintaining the clubhouse and gardens.

Lucille will be bringing bagels and coffee. Also the 2025-2026 Garden Club yearbook will be available for pick up at that time.

I look forward to seeing you all on Friday As many hands make light work.

Bob Farley
