Colorado Drowning Prevention Taskforce Colorado Professionals working to Eliminate Drowning. Colorado Chapter of the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA). We are in need of more help.

Mission
The Colorado Drowning Prevention Taskforce's mission is to reduce drowning deaths and near drowning incidents in Colorado by aligning aquatic experts with the community. General Information:
Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among Colorado children ages 14 and under, with only motor vehicle crashes causing more fatalities. There were 36 Drowning Dea

ths in Colorado last year. 32 of them were in open waters such as lakes, ponds, rivers and ditches. We are looking for, Fire Departments, Hospitals, Swim Schools, Community Advocates and anyone else who is concerned about water safety. Drowning is Preventable, but it takes a united effort.

Please be very careful and follow these rules to be SAFER around the water:
1. Always wear a lifejacket.
2. Never go on the water alone.
3. Keep your kids within arms reach.
4. Take swim lessons
5. Know your limitations, especially for moving water such as rivers. They are flowing extremely high.

For the river specifically:
1. Know your ability
2. Scout the river for hazards (strainers, debris, dangerous conditions)
3. If you fall in, put feed down stream and look for point to get out.
4. Get out of the water as soon as possible.
5. If you see someone fall in, use Reach, Throw and Go
6. Call 911 immediately.
