On June 14, 2026 also known as Flag Day there was a gathering. A gathering to dedicate the VFW Post 816 Littleton NH Pavillion & Chapel and to honor Dan Greenlaw. This is the that speech given.
"Hello, My name is Bill Sargent. Upon my moving back to the North Country in 1997, I met Dan here at the VFW. Being a veteran of the early 80's but not eligible for the VFW was of no concern to Dan. I was a veteran, and that was all that mattered. I was immediately drawn to his dedication and concern for Veterans and their needs - drawn to his want and need to teach young adults what it means to be an American. Today, we gather on Flag Day to honor the American Flag and all it represents. This Flag has flown over our Nation through times of peace and war. Today, we also honor Dan Greenlaw, a man who's service echos that bravery. Dan joind the army in 1967 and served with the 173rd Airborne, especially at the Battle of Dak To and Hill 875 during the Vietnam War, where his courage earned him multiple medals and commendations with them the Silver Star and the Purple Star. Beyond his military service, Dan still is a pillar of the community. He was instrumental in designing Littleton’s Veterans Memorial Bridge, which was dedicated in May of 2003. His hard work made it the only Bridge in the U.S. that honors fallen service members with customized individual bronze name plaques. He has also served seven times as Commander of VFW Post 816 and State Commander of New Hampshire's VFW. In addition, Dan has served on the Memorial Day Committee for over 30 years, ensuring every ceremony honors those who gave all. And as we look to the future, this Pavillion and Chapel, built with his dedication, will serve as a gathering place for both the public and the VFW community - and enduring testament to his legacy."
