The Society of Economic Geologists was once again proud to partner with the Research Ireland Centre for Applied Geosciences (iCRAG) and universities across the Copperbelt region to co-organize the two-day student symposium entitled, “Geology of the Central African Copperbelt ”, which took place June 6-7, at the Garden Court hotel in Kitwe, Zambia.
This 2nd annual symposium focused on bringing together nearly 100 university students from across Zambia and the DR Congo to participate in a worldclass technical program of industry presentations, discussion panels, and student research encompassing the latest in Copperbelt exploration thinking and discovery insights. With one of the principal goals being to promote student engagement by fostering an environment for knowledge sharing between academia, government, and industry within the Copperbelt region.
SEG are sincerely grateful to all of the students, presenters, and volunteers who helped make this such a memorable weekend, and a big "thank-you" is owed to the Organizing Committee, including Murray Hitzman, Rob Kaemba, Jon Stacey, Pascal Matanda, Shonny Lehane, Duncan Proctor, Dave Broughton and the Copperbelt Student Chapters for all of their efforts. Additionally, these types of impactful initiatives are simply not possible without the support from generous industry partners, and SEG would like to thank First Quantum Minerals, Barrick, Ivanhoe Mines, KoBold Metals, and Prospect Resources for their meaningful contributions.
It was a truly excellent weekend and we're so grateful to all that participated!
