🚲 Happy World Bicycle Day!

Did you know that North Country Health Consortium recently received 72 bicycle helmets to distribute throughout our communities, thanks to the Injury Prevention Center at Dartmouth Health?

These helmets range in size from toddlers to adults and will help make biking safer for children, families, and community members across the North Country.

At NCHC, we believe public health is public safety, and public safety is harm reduction. Sometimes that looks like education and prevention programs. Sometimes it looks like helping ensure that a child has a properly fitting helmet before they hop on a bike.

We're grateful to the Injury Prevention Center for partnering with communities to prevent injuries and promote healthy, active lifestyles.

Keep an eye out for opportunities to receive a free helmet at upcoming community events and outreach activities throughout the region!

πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ Ride safe. Wear a helmet. Enjoy the journey.

πŸŽ‰ A milestone worth celebrating!

North Country Health Consortium is proud to share that all three members of our DoulaCONNECT team are now officially certified by the State of New Hampshire as Labor and Birth Doulas and Postpartum Doulas.

Congratulations to:
πŸ’š Stephanie Narrow
πŸ’š Rikki Chapman
πŸ’š Becca Sanders

This voluntary state certification process, launched earlier this year, helps strengthen the doula workforce in New Hampshire and supports future opportunities for Medicaid reimbursement of doula services when approved through the state's Medicaid program.

More importantly, it reflects the dedication, training, and commitment our Doula Community Health Workers bring to supporting families throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

As some of the first families served through DoulaCONNECT celebrate their babies' first birthdays, we're proud to continue expanding access to compassionate, community-based support for parents and caregivers across the North Country.

Please join us in congratulating Steph, Becca, and Rikki on this exciting achievement! πŸ’š

🌟 Youth leadership in action.

A couple weeks ago in May, 80 middle school students from 11 schools across the North Country came together for ADAPT's annual Middle School Youth Leadership Through Adventure (YLTA) Conference.

Over the course of 24 hours, students built new friendships, strengthened leadership skills, explored prevention and community-building topics, and worked alongside peers from across the region to develop Action Plans they can bring back to their schools and communities.

From improving school climate and supporting younger students to creating community events and increasing access to resources, these youth leaders are already thinking about how they can create positive change where they live.

At North Country Health Consortium, we are proud to support events like these through our Positive Youth Development funding, helping young people discover their strengths, build meaningful connections, and develop the confidence to lead.

Thank you to ADAPT, participating schools, advisors, volunteers, community partners, and most importantly, the incredible youth who continue to show what is possible when young people are given opportunities to lead.

πŸ’™ The future is bright in the North Country.

Last week, members of the North Country Health Consortium team participated in su***de prevention training offered by Connor's Climb Foundation, a New Hampshire organization dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and equipping communities with tools to support youth mental health and prevent su***de.

Greg Williams, Mariah Wilson, and Merida Brimhall attended the training, which focused on su***de prevention best practices and evidence-based approaches to supporting young people and the trusted adults who work with them.

At NCHC, we know that building healthier communities means investing in prevention, education, and early intervention. We are grateful for opportunities like this to strengthen our knowledge and continue supporting the well-being of youth and families across the North Country.

Thank you to Connor's Climb Foundation for the important work you do and for helping communities across New Hampshire build hope, connection, and resilience.

πŸ’™ If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

πŸ’Š Safe medication disposal is now even more accessible in the North Country.

North Country Health Consortium is proud to partner with the Gorham Police Department to bring a new prescription drug drop box to the community.

The drop box is now available at Gorham Town Hall and provides a safe, convenient way for residents to dispose of unwanted or expired medications year-round.

Proper medication disposal helps prevent misuse, protects our environment, and keeps medications out of the hands of children and others who may be harmed by them.

Pictured are Gorham Police Chief Jimmy Willhoite, Greg Williams (Substance Misuse Prevention Coordinator and Continuum of Care Coordinator at NCHC), and Joy Noel (Senior Program Manager and CoΓΆs County Juvenile Court Diversion Coordinator).

πŸ“ Other North Country prescription drop box locations include:
β€’ Haverhill Police Department
β€’ Lisbon Police Department
β€’ Littleton Police Department
β€’ Bethlehem Police Department
β€’ Whitefield Police Department
β€’ Lancaster Police Department
β€’ Carroll Police Department
β€’ Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital (Colebrook)
β€’ Berlin Police Department

Thank you to the Gorham Police Department and everyone working to support safer, healthier communities across the North Country.

πŸŽ‰ Congratulations to Rebecca Hill-Larsen!

North Country Health Consortium is proud to celebrate Rebecca on receiving the 2026 Achievement in Public Health Award from the University of Vermont's Master of Public Health Program.

Rebecca (pictured on the right) serves as NCHC's Doula CHW Supervisor and RMOMS Network Coordinator and also chairs the North Country region of the NH Community Health Worker Coalition. Through these roles, she helps strengthen maternal health, support Community Health Workers, and improve access to care and resources for families across northern New Hampshire.

This student-nominated award recognizes exceptional commitment to public health practice and outstanding teamworkβ€”qualities Rebecca demonstrates every day through her leadership, collaboration, and dedication to improving health outcomes in our communities.

We are grateful for Rebecca's contributions to NCHC, the North Country, and the broader public health field, and we're thrilled to see her work recognized through this well-deserved honor.
