🥤Paper beverage cups (hot and cold) are now recyclable in Massachusetts and belong in the blue bin on the right. (Toss the lid and straw in the trash.)

📣 Share the good news with your friends and favorite coffee shop.

The wild turkeys are out for spring, and they want you 🫵 to put your stuff in the right bin.

♻️Make sure your recyclables actually get recycled (AKA, don't toss them as trash). On the go? Look for a public recycling bin or hang onto your stuff until you get home.

⏸️On the flip side, ""wishcycling"" is NOT the answer. Pause and make sure what you've got is accepted for recycling. (It only takes a few seconds to check the Recyclopedia!)

Thanks to your hard work, tons of clothing, electronics, furniture, books, instruments, and more found a second life instead of heading to the landfill. It's amazing to see what our community can keep out of the waste stream when we come together.
Big thanks to every student, volunteer, and resident who showed up, donated, and helped sort. You all made a real difference! 💚

Athol Transfer and Recycling Station now has a sharps container!
Always look for the red sharps disposal container for safe and responsible disposal.
For safety reasons, sharps (needles) don't belong in household trash or recycling.

The container is located inside the station and can be accessed during normal business hours.

Check with your local nurseries regarding plastic pot recycling.
Grow Native Massachusetts hosts a plastic pot/tray drop-off event at 7 Harrington Road (Lexington, MA) starting in June through June 22.

We won't leaf you hanging: Flower pots and trays (aka flats) do NOT go in the recycling. Some garden centers may take them back, but you'll need to ask before you donate. Splitting plants? 🌱 Be sure to disinfect all pots and trays you give away to make sure you don't pass along any invasives (like jumping worms and black swallow wort).

🌱Local transfer stations and recycle centers often sell backyard composting bins and kitchen scrap buckets to help support home composting efforts.

Athol Transfer and Recycling Station, Ayer Transfer Station, and Groton Transfer Station all provide food scrap drop off service for residents with annual permits.
Commercial composters like these accept additional organic material like meat, bones, and dairy.
