Today, MCNP joins communities across the country in recognizing Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and serves as a reminder of the ongoing pursuit of equity and opportunity for all.

As nurse practitioners, we see firsthand how social, economic, and historical factors influence health and access to care. Juneteenth invites us to reflect on our shared responsibility to advance health equity, reduce barriers to care, and ensure that every patient is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Meet Elizabeth Brown, DNP, Family Nurse Practitioner.

Elizabeth completed her DNP at UMass Chan Graduate School of Nursing and has worked in primary care at NeighborHealth in East Boston for the past three years. Passionate about all things community health, her favorite part of primary care is building long term relationships with her patients, helping them navigate complex systems as well as finding creative ways to make care more accessible.

In addition to her clinical work, Elizabeth believes in the importance of professional involvement and serves as a Regional Representative for MCNP's Greater Boston Region and as a member of the Membership Engagement Committee. Through these roles, she has enjoyed connecting with Nurse Practitioners from a variety of backgrounds and practice settings.

Whether supporting patients in their healthcare journeys or fostering engagement among fellow NPs, Elizabeth demonstrates the power of community in advancing health and the profession.

As Cannabis Nursing emerges as a distinct specialty, nurses find themselves at the forefront of patient care where cannabis use intersects with clinical practice. Nurses play a critical role in patient disclosures, documentation, education, workflow coordination, and operational decision-making, yet many continue to navigate this landscape without the standardized infrastructure needed to fully support safe, effective patient care.
Join expert Cannabis Nurses for a FREE WEBINAR exploring what the evolving role of cannabis in clinical practice means for the nursing workforce moving forward.

Congress has an opportunity to protect and invest in our future nursing workforce.

The Nursing Is a Professional Degree Act (H.R. 8691 / S. 4568) would reverse the U.S. Department of Education's decision to exclude graduate nursing programs from professional degree recognition and help ensure that Nurse Practitioner and other APRN students can continue to access the federal student loans they need to complete their education.

MCNP supports this legislation and encourages all members and nursing advocates to contact their members of Congress and ask them to sign on as co-sponsors.

Lawmakers need to hear why this legislation is important for our nation's healthcare system and the patients who depend on it.

Your voice matters! Take action today through the Advocacy Center.
