Uncle Max recently spent the day at a seminar for fish farming.

We have continued our fish farm but have failed to actually make any money at it. We have been breaking even but that just won’t cut it.

So Max spent a day learning from experts and even made friends with someone who has agreed to mentor him in hope that we can figure out how to actually make this venture profitable.

Thanks Farmer Max for working so hard to help Adom Fie. 🐟🎣

Today we closed our doors to the day care in order to have the DREADED all-day-staff-meeting!!

Ugh 😩😩😩😩

Even worse the ENTIRE meeting was about employee compensation.

Snooze!!😴

But I think if you asked the staff it might have been one of the best meetings we have ever had.

If you read our latest email (didn’t get it just drop me your email and I’ll send it) we treat our staff as beneficiaries of our nonprofit, not like line items.

How does that change things? 🤔

When employees are an expense you do everything you can to minimize the expense. Like paying minimal salaries and limited benefits.

When you treat staff like a beneficiary you look at what it takes for them to thrive. What is a living wage, what benefits help them the most.

The question becomes how do we maximize the benefit to them rather than minimize the cost of them?

What I recently realized is that part of maximizing the benefit is for them to UNDERSTAND the benefit.

So we spent 4 hours! Yikes 4! Talking about salary vs compensation, income taxes, and social security funds.

As boring as this sounds everyone was engaged and I believe felt more empowered at the end, fully understanding their own payroll.
