📣 COLORADO READ ACT – MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD

Colorado is updating its READ Act rules as the state prepares for K–3 dyslexia screening, and Western Slope voices need to be part of the conversation.

Implementation has to work for small and rural communities, where staffing, travel and access to specialized services may look very different.

Parents, educators and community members can submit feedback to the State Board of Education. Written comments are preferred by October 7.

Thank you to Governor Jared Polis for recognizing Dyslexia Awareness Month through an official proclamation, secured through the efforts of the International Dyslexia Assoc. - Rocky Mountain Branch (IDA-RMB)!

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱.

With the passage of SB25-200 and updates to Colorado's READ Act, universal dyslexia screening has reached an important milestone. Now, implementation matters.

On October 15, the Colorado State Board of Education will consider proposed READ Act rules and an updated assessment approval list—decisions that will shape dyslexia screening for Colorado students.

On October 15, the Colorado State Board of Education will consider the updated READ Act assessment approval options and proposed rules that will help shape universal dyslexia screening for K–3 students.

Colorado has worked for years to reach this milestone. Now, it's essential that we get the details right.

As these decisions move forward, The Reading League Colorado encourages 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗬 in the assessment review process, careful consideration of the 𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 supporting screening tools, and 𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 to ensure local screening practices effectively identify students who may be at risk for dyslexia.

This Dyslexia Awareness Month, the International Dyslexia Assoc. - Rocky Mountain Branch(IDA-RMB) is partnering with the 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗢𝘂𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 and the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼 to bring Until Everyone Can Read: A Pledge of Solidarity to life.

On 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟬, 55 large-scale photographic portraits will be installed at UNC’s McKee Hall—each representing someone who has pledged to stand in solidarity with individuals with dyslexia and support the belief that 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁.

And you can be part of it.

Come help bring this powerful public art installation to life. No experience is needed—just a willingness to get a little messy, connect with others, and stand together for a future where 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱.
