Yasutomo Ihara spent years working as a stunt performer in Japan's Super Sentai franchise, best known for his role behind the mask as the Green Ranger. His job required him to scale walls, climb poles and pull off acrobatic stunts for the cameras.
In 2014, police in Saitama Prefecture arrested Ihara after linking him to a string of burglaries. He had used the same climbing skills from his stunt career to scale the outsides of houses and enter through upper floor windows, breaking into 43 homes and making off with roughly 8.2 million yen, around $77,000, in cash and valuables.
Ihara later said a knee injury in 2009 had ended his stunt career and left him struggling for income. He had hoped to raise enough money to enroll in acting school and rebuild his path in entertainment.
