Hanging baskets can grow more than flowers 🪴 A few tips that help:
🍅 Cherry tomatoes and basil are a great sunny basket combo.
🍓 Strawberries and lettuce work well when you want something pretty and useful.
🌿 Herbs like oregano, parsley, chives, and thyme are perfect for smaller baskets.
🥬 Lettuce, arugula, spinach, and radishes are nice for quick harvests.
💧 Hanging baskets dry out fast, so I check them often in warm weather.
I like these combos because they make small-space gardening feel a lot more doable.

Repotting too often can stress plants too 🪴 A few signs I check first:
🌱 Fast growers like pothos, spider plants, and philodendrons may need more room sooner.
🌿 Slower plants usually prefer staying settled for longer.
💧 If water runs straight through, the plant may be rootbound.
🪴 Go up just one pot size so the soil doesn’t stay too wet.
🌵 Snake plants, ZZ plants, hoyas, and jade plants often like being a little snug.
I used to repot on a schedule, but now I check the roots and the plant’s growth first.

Awesome news for Central Arkansas. This is going to be an awesome project and provide much needed gardening educational space for our communities.

We are beyond excited to tell you that NLR Parks & Recreation Commission voted unanimously to let SJCA move forward in building a forty-two acre educational farm and gardens in Burns Park! This project will be such an amazing asset to North Little Rock and central Arkansas.

More details to come!

National Garden week is coming to an end but we still have plenty time in June to think about pollinator gardening.

June is National Pollinator Month! Think like a pollinator with these tips from the US Forest Service:
- Go Native. Pollinators are “best” adapted to local, native plants, which often need less water than ornamentals
- Bee Bountiful. Plant big patches of each plant species (better foraging efficiency.)
- Bee Sunny. Provide areas with sunny, bare soil that’s dry and well-drained, preferably with south-facing slopes.
- Bee Showy. Flowers should bloom in your garden throughout the growing season. Plant willow, currant, and Oregon grape for spring and aster, rabbit
brush and goldenrod for fall flowers.
- Bee Patient. It takes time for native plants to grow and for pollinators to find
your garden, especially if you live far from wild lands.

Title: Planning your garden — think like a pollinator.

Go Native. Pollinators are “best” adapted to local, native plants, which often need less water than ornamentals.
Bee Showy. Flowers should bloom in your garden throughout the growing season. Plant willow, violet, and mayapple for spring and aster, joe-pye w**d, and goldenrod for fall flowers.
Bee Bountiful. Plant big patches of each plant species for better foraging efficiency.
Bee Patient. It takes time for native plants to grow and for pollinators to find your garden, especially if you live far from wild lands.
Bee Gentle. Most bees will avoid stinging and use that behavior only in self-defense. Male bees do not sting.
Bee Chemical Free. Pesticides and herbicides kill pollinators.
Bee Homey. Make small piles of branches to attract butterflies and moths. Provide hollow twigs, rotten logs with wood-boring beetle holes and bunchgrasses and leave stumps, old rodent burrows, and fallen plant material for nesting bees. Leave dead or dying trees for woodpeckers.
Bee Sunny. Provide areas with sunny, bare soil that’s dry and well-drained, preferably with south-facing slopes.
Bee Diverse. Plant a diversity of flowering species with abundant pollen and nectar and specific plants for feeding butterfly and moth caterpillars.
Bee a little messy. Most of our native bee species (70%) nest underground, so avoid using w**d cloth or heavy mulch.
Bee Aware. Observe pollinators when you walk outside in nature. Notice which flowers attract bumble bees or solitary bees, and which attract butterflies.
Bee Friendly. Create pollinator-friendly gardens both at home, at schools and in public parks. Help people learn more about pollinators and native plants.

Shade pots can be just as pretty as sunny ones 🌿 Here’s what I like to mix for a fuller-looking container:
🍃 One bold leafy plant for shape.
🌸 One softer bloomer for color.
🌿 One trailing plant to spill over the edge.
💧 Even moisture, especially during warm weather.
🪴 A pot with drainage so the roots don’t stay soggy.
Mixing leaf colors and textures makes a shady corner look so much more intentional.

Zinnias are one of the easiest flowers to love 🌼 A few things that make them worth growing:
🐝 Bees and butterflies visit them constantly.
☀️ They handle summer heat well.
🌱 They’re easy to start from seed.
🍅 They look great near vegetable beds.
✂️ Cutting blooms often encourages more flowers.
🌼 Deadheading helps keep the plant blooming longer.
I like giving them full sun and enough spacing so the plants stay healthier through the season.
