β€œI’ve been to the mountaintop… And I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land!"

On April 3, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. planned to stay home and rest. But when fellow movement leaders arrived at the Mason Temple in Memphis, Tennessee to thousands of striking sanitation workers, they called King to come speak to the crowd.

"He was more powerful that night," Memphis sanitation worker Leslie Moore told American Experience, "He been powerful all the time, but there was an unusual power that he had. He really spoke so deep down out of his heart, looked like he poured everything out of his heart."

It would be King's final speech.

Did you spot Mr. Bobby Rush on the Oscars stage? πŸ‘€πŸŽΆ

Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Class of 2014 inductee Bobby Rush brought his unmistakable blues sound to the national spotlight with a special performance of β€œI Lied to You” from the film Sinners during the Academy Awards. His smooth, soulful harmonica could be heard throughout the electrifying performance, reminding the world why he remains one of the great voices of the blues.

We’re proud to celebrate this moment and even prouder to call him one of our own. 🎢
