Two of our club athletes competed in National cross country meets. Madison Plumlee ran at the Middle School XC Nationals Championship in Louisville, KY and finished the 4000m course in 15:31. At the New Balance RunningLane Cross Country National Championship, Miller Crum ran 16:35 for 5000m on a soft, muddy course. Both had outstanding seasons. Miller placed 5th at the Arkansas State Championship in the 4A race, and he’s only a freshman. His sister, Alice Crum took 3rd in the State Meet in the 4A race. As an 8th grade athlete, Madison won’t be able to run in the State Meet until next year.

Other club athletes who competed at the State Meet were Javeed Walker, Ethan Zepeda, and Tyler Scaife. Shaah Rahmaan didn’t compete at the State Meet, but he did earn All-Conference honors.

On November 22, the club hosted a cross country meet at Two Rivers Park. We conducted two races, a one mile for ages 11 and under, and two miles for 12 through 18.
In the 9 and under category Thomas Wilson was first in 7:42, Henry See placed 2nd in 7:58 and Ben Burford took 3rd with a time of 8:10.
Cooper Benning won the 10-11 division with a mile time of 7:21.
In the 2 mile race, Jacob Bitely finished first in the 12-14 division at 13:30. Miller Crum won the 15-16 race with a time of 10:10. Javeed Walker placed first in the 17-18 division in 11:49, while Tyler Scaife took 2nd in 12:15 and Ethan Cooper ran to a 3rd place finish in 12:53.
The course was flat but had standing water in several places, slowing the runner quite a bit. Nonetheless, the times were still good. Club coach Carson and Miller paced some of the younger runners. Carson also ran the first mile for Miller, which was crossed in 4:51.
All athletes earned medals and it was a fun Saturday afternoon!

On Saturday, October 4, two members of R&R Track Club competed at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival held on the University of Arkansas cross country course in Fayetteville. Madison Plumlee placed 8th in the Girls Junior High race. There were 374 competitors who completed the race. In the Boys Junior High Race, Miller Crum won competing in a field of 505 runners. Madison and Miller are two of the best runners in Arkansas for their ages.
Madison competes for Central Arkansas Christian and Miller for Pulaski Academy. The Chili Pepper Festival is one of the more prestigious cross country events in the country involving several high school races, college races, open races, and the two middle school races. Some of the best runners in the country compete at Chile Pepper. Close to 5000 competed this year.
Several other club members are competing for their schools in cross country this year, including Alice Crum, Javeed Walker, Tyler Scaife, Shaah Rahmaan, and Ethan Zepeda

For those who still have school practice, you will remain with them until the season is over. We will start at 6:00pm. Please meet at the parking lot off the roundabout on Fair Park.

Region 16 Championship
It’s been a good season for R&R Track Club. We just finished the Region 16 Championship held in Springfield Missouri. We took 11 athletes and all performed well. The only meet left is the National Junior Olympic Championship in Houston, Texas at the end of July and the first week of August.
Our youngest athlete at Regionals was Thomas Wilson who competed in the 8 and under boys 100m finishing in 17.61. He was also in the 200m and ran 38.99. This has been a fantastic season for Thomas in his first year of track! In the 12-year-old girls division Shaniah Rahmaan had a great season. This fast young lady ran the 100m in 13.95 and just missed qualifying for the final. In the 200m, Shaniah ran a fast 29.78. Although she didn’t make the finals, both performances were person best times!
Princess Onuoha ran a personal record (PR) in the 15-16 girls 800m in 2:46.61! She also came close to her PR in the 1500m with a time of 6:25.35. in the 15-16 boys division, Ethan Zepeda had a wonderful meet. He ran a huge PR in the 800m with a time of 2:10.03. Right now that is the fourth fastest 8th grade time in Arkansas this year! In addition, Ethan ran PRs in the 400m (57.29) and the 1500m (4:50.77). Although he competes in the 15-16 division, Ethan is still 14.
Competing in the 17-18 young men’s division, Shaah Rahmaan, Jr ran the 400m in 52.80. Not a PR, but a strong race for Shaah. In the same division, Corey Nelson ran a PR in the 800m (2:20.66) and had a good effort in the 1500m with a time of 5:27.79. In the young women’s division Charnise Smith ran the 100m (13.20) the 200m (27.81) and 400m (1:09.69). Charnise really improved her sprint times under Coach Ray!
The Club had four athletes qualify for Junior Olympics. Madison Plumlee, although 13, competed in the girls 14 division. She had a fantastic meet earning two bronze medals in the 800m (2:28.48) a big PR and the 3000m (11:49.03). Miller Crum place 4th in the boys 15-16 division (he is 14) 800m in a PR 2:01.47. He also took 4th in the 1500m in 4:19.56 and 4th in the 3000m (9:35.60). In addition, Miller had a mark of 109 feet in the javelin but failed to qualify in that event. Miller is the fastest 8th grader in Arkansas this year in the 800m, 1500m and Mile, and might be the fastest in the history of the state for that grade.
Kimora Garcia placed 2nd in the girls 15-16 400m in a very good 59.63. It was not a PR but was still a strong performance! Kimora also ran the 100m (12.82) and 200m (26.37). She didn’t qualify for the finals, but these were fast times. The club’s star of the meet was Alice Crum. She competes in the 17-18 young women’s division although she doesn’t turn 17 until the end of December. She won the 800m in a fantastic 2:18.18 PR, leading the entire race. In the 400m, despite not racing in the fastest heat, Alice ran a PR (1:01.01) and placed 5th. That was better than her previous PR set two years ago. In the 1500m, Alice placed 2nd in another PR (5:02.76). She also had a throw of 73 feet in the javelin, but did not qualify for Nationals.
Congratulations to Madison, Miller, Kimora, and Alice!

In June, not only did Miller Crum compete in the AAU District and Regional meets, but he also ran in two National Championships. His first national meet was the HOKA Festival of Miles in St. Louis. Miller placed 6th in the Final Surge Junior High Invitational Mile in 4:37.77.
Two weeks later, Miller competed at the Nike Outdoor Nationals at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, the best track and field facility in the country and one of the best in the world. On the first day, Miller competed in the Middle School mile in the fast heat and placed 8th in 4:32.90. His 1500m split was 4:14.48, and the 1600m split was 4:31.01. The following day Miller placed 5th in the middle school 800m in 2:02.73 to earn All American honors.
