SAME Arkansas Post Monthly Meeting

WHEN: Wednesday, June 10, 2026
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm (Show up early to order your food)

WHERE: Whole Hog Cafe - Cantrell Rd. Little Rock

SPEAKER: Sean Joyce | Project Engineer | Anthony Hardwood Composites / EMTEK

TOPIC: Energy & Civil Infrastructure Construction | Electrical Transmission and Distribution

BIO:
Sean has worked with Anthony Hardwood Composites (AHC) as a Project Engineer since May of 2022. He primarily designs access systems for civil and transmission projects across the US using engineered wood products. Sean and his team design roads and working pads in unimproved sites with soil subgrade moduli ranging from 70 PCI to 0.07 PCI. These access systems range from elevated working platforms on challenging terrain to floating roads across swift rivers.

Sean and his team use Beam on Elastic Foundation (BOEF) modeling to predict their access system’s deflection and stresses imposed from equipment loading to optimize designs to be safe and mitigate environmental impact. Soil Bearing failure and deflection in the working surface is inevitable, Sean collaborates with third party engineers to predict these deflections during critical loading scenarios and evaluate risk so crane operators can be confident in their pick loads and radius. Sean and his team use safety metrics like HECA (High-Energy Control Assessment) to ensure all work during High-Energy lifts are in a manner that is controlled and safe.

Sean grew up in Central Maine and graduated from the University of Maine with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Sean, his wife Amanda, and their 9-month-old son Kilian live in Southern Maine.
