FROM THE ARCHIVE - In 2018 federal agents were in Kelso, AR, to look at setting up a potential child focused immigrant detainment center. The facility was only a few miles from the Rohwer War Relocation Center, an internment camp that held thousands of forcibly removed Japanese Americans during World War II.
Intransitive with Center for Artistic Revolution held a rally on the capitol steps to show our opposition. To this day, no immigrant detention center has been built in Arkansas. Trans and Q***r migrants are always on the front lines of liberation movements. We have been calling to Abolish ICE. We will continue to fight for a world without cages. Although we wish child detention centers were a thing of the past, there is currently one being proposed in Alexandria, Louisiana. Why does this matter for Arkansas? Because when someone is picked up by ICE 🧊 in Arkansas, they are sent to Louisiana detention centers. If a women and children detention center opens, we for see Arkansas families being detained there.
