Sole Talks Season 7 | Episode 6
“What inspires me to give back to our community is our community..”
Theresa Timmons is a passionate leader committed to cultivating the arts, leadership, and successful futures of the youth and creative communities. Her dedication to excellence has led her to become a recognized change agent both locally and nationally. She is the Founder of the Timmons Arts Foundation and Westwind School for Performing Arts.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Theresa started her higher education career at the University of Cincinnati. After moving to Little Rock, she continued at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, majoring in Business Administration. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and a proud, decorated veteran of the United States Army, in which she served 16 years.
In 2010, Theresa founded the Timmons Arts Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization. Serving as Executive Director of the foundation (2010-2021), TAF promotes and highlights the importance of the arts in our community by creating opportunities to develop the talents of our youth.
Theresa is also the Founder and Executive Producer of Designers Choice Fashion Preview (DCFP), Arkansas’ largest annual fashion event, which celebrates local fashion designers and artists. Proceeds from DCFP benefit the Timmons Arts Foundation.
In response to a lack of educational infrastructure dedicated to the creative class, Theresa founded the Westwind School for Performing Arts Charter School (2021), an arts-integrated performing arts charter school designed to meet the needs of students by integrating dance, music, theater, visual arts, and filmmaking seamlessly into core academic subjects - speaking to the student’s interests, needs, and learning preferences.
She is a woman who wears many hats, but her primary focus and true passion is for the education, enrichment, and empowerment of our youth.
