Thank you Toni Rose for inviting me to the Bible Reading Marathon at the Arkansas State Capitol. It was a joyful occasion to see so many people enjoying the blessings of hearing and reading the Word of life. As I reflect on the great treasures found in God's Word I can't help but think of the prayer of the Psalmist, "show me wonderful things in thy Word, Oh LORD!" The Psalmist loved God's Word because he loved God.

Through God's Word we come to learn of the power of the gospel that can set the believer free from the power, consequences, and stain of sin and death. We can with God's help come to know God and grow in grace and knowledge of Him, who provided a ransom for us, at the proper time. Through His precious promises, we come to realize and enjoy a living hope, because in the Bible we learn that Christ Jesus the Lord died for sinners, was He buried, and rose again to be our living Savior and Lord. This is great news for all believers everywhere, in every generation!

Within the context of 1 Timothy 2 and in light of the church's broader evangelistic and disciple-making commission, the Apostle Paul urged believers to offer public prayers, supplicating and compassionately interceding for all people, kings, and all who are leading and serving in positions of authority. By mentioning political leaders twice, the Apostle Paul highlighted the importance of remembering them in our prayers. Paul urged the church to pray with an attitude of thanksgiving, within the bonds of brotherly love and Christian unity, while worshiping the Lord.

1 Timothy 2:1-5

1 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. 5 For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity--the man Christ Jesus. 6 He gave His life to purchase freedom for everyone. No matter what kind or how many kinds of trials we might encounter in our lifetime, I am convinced that the grace of God will outshine them all, not only in time, but throughout all eternity. For this, I am most thankful; anything else is just a bonus. Happy Thanksgiving to all! May God grant you the grace to trust in the LORD, with all your heart, so that you might have strength in time of need. Calling on the Lord Jesus Christ is the best thing I have ever done, and it was only made possible by the riches of His great mercy, love, and grace. If you can gather with family and friends, give thanks with a grateful heart. Thanksgiving is infectious, and it is part of how we may testify of the grace we have received, from one generation to the next. God richly bless you, and I want you to know that I am thankful for your friendship.

Psalm 91:1-2
King James Version
91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

There is no better place or One, in whom we may dwell, or find refuge, or in whom we may trust.

Proverbs 18:2--A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.

To all those willing to receive it, God's Word provides practical guidance for loving our neighbor, even on social media!

Pray: Lord, as I begin my day, please help me to listen to others and ensure I understand them before considering how you might want me to speak even a word to them.

Psalm 37
English Standard Version

He Will Not Forsake His Saints

Of David.

1 Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
be not envious of wrongdoers!
2 For they will soon fade like the grass
and wither like the green herb.

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.[b]
4 Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday.

7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!

8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!
Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.
9 For the evildoers shall be cut off,
but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.

10 In just a little while, the wicked will be no more;
though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there.
11 But the meek shall inherit the land
and delight themselves in abundant peace.

12 The wicked plots against the righteous
and gnashes his teeth at him,
13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he sees that his day is coming.

14 The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows
to bring down the poor and needy,
to slay those whose way is upright;
15 their sword shall enter their own heart,
and their bows shall be broken.

16 Better is the little that the righteous has
than the abundance of many wicked.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
but the Lord upholds the righteous.

18 The Lord knows the days of the blameless,
and their heritage will remain forever;
19 they are not put to shame in evil times;
in the days of famine they have abundance.

20 But the wicked will perish;
the enemies of the Lord are like the glory of the pastures;
they vanish—like smoke they vanish away.

21 The wicked borrows but does not pay back,
but the righteous is generous and gives;
22 for those blessed by the Lord[c] shall inherit the land,
but those cursed by him shall be cut off.

23 The steps of a man are established by the Lord,
when he delights in his way;
24 though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong,
for the Lord upholds his hand.

25 I have been young, and now am old,
yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken
or his children begging for bread.
26 He is ever lending generously,
and his children become a blessing.

27 Turn away from evil and do good;so shall you dwell forever.
28 For the Lord loves justice;
he will not forsake his saints.
They are preserved forever,
but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land
and dwell upon it forever.

30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
and his tongue speaks justice.
31 The law of his God is in his heart;
his steps do not slip.

32 The wicked watches for the righteous
and seeks to put him to death.
33 The Lord will not abandon him to his power
or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial.

34 Wait for the Lord and keep his way,
and he will exalt you to inherit the land;
you will look on when the wicked are cut off.

Please pray for Arkansas leaders as they serve our state. Pray that God will bless the advance of His gospel to our elected and appointed officials, the staff, and the lobbying communities. Also pray for me, as weekly I am involved with several studies and many informal meetings.

2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
