It was an honor to honor our first responders today! Thank you to Engage AR for providing us with a mini grant for the 9/11 National Day of Service. We know it’s not 9/11, but every day is a good day to recognize first responders, especially those with a direct connection to the camp: Cliff Spann and his team at West Pulaski Fire Department; LRPD Officer Christopher Tollette; Pulaski County, Arkansas Sheriff’s Office Officer Tallent; former camper, CIT, and counselor Amanda Warren (EMT); and former camper and CIT Xerin Merriweather (Air National Guard). Several spoke about their pathways to a career in service, and the campers had lots of good questions. Thanks to our campers and parents for the food pantry donations and thanks to the CITs for putting together our new shelving. At camp we talk a lot about service and relationships. We nailed both of those today! Thanks to our Chairman of the Board Charlie Coleman for reminding all of us that the camp is a “responder.” We may not be a first responder, but we are responding to the needs of our community in many ways. Thanks to Sanford for the service he continues to give even in retirement. And thanks to an amazing staff and AmeriCorps team for ALWAYS going above and beyond to bring the joy and connection!!
