Did you know that at least 1 international union, IATSE, views union membership as 'strictly a Local matter'. In like manner, the NLRB views Local membership as 'in internal matter'. SO, in matters of active union membership; Local precedence, doesn't matter AND preferential and/or prejudicial membership are 'allowed' !?!
You are never “too old” for fair treatment at work. Age discrimination is wrong - and illegal.
If you think you’re experiencing age discrimination:
✅ Write it down. Keep a simple record of what happened, when, where, and who was involved. Save emails, texts and screenshots.
✅ Know your rights. Federal law protects workers 40-plus from discrimination based on age. You can submit an inquiry with the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission).
✅ Talk to someone you trust. A friend, family member or community advocate can help you think through next steps. You don’t have to carry this alone.
✅ Reach out for support. and AARP Foundation offer free resources to help older adults build skills, navigate job searches, and push back against unfair treatment at work. Head to our link in bio for more info.
Getting older should add to your value — not diminish it. You bring experience, resilience, and problem‑solving skills that workplaces need.
