Say hello to these cute Arkansas turtles🐢. The little guy is a Stinkpot. Yes, he actually has scent glands on the edge of his shell that produce a musky smell. The larger turtle is a Red-Eared Slider, named for the red markings behind his eyes. These two reptiles are located in our nature cabin at the 4-H Center in Little Rock. Come enjoy learning about all things Arkansas with the Arkansas Outdoor School! ,

Do you know what type of Arkansas snake this is?
It is an Eastern Hog-Nosed Snake and he is a funny little guy! This snake likes to hiss, and look mean by spreading his head out to mimic a cobra, and eventually he will play dead in an attempt to avoid danger. The Hog-Nosed snake is also a very picky eater! Toads are his favorite and he turns his nose up at most everything else we give him.

Our young alligator is always a big hit with our visitors. Here at Arkansas Outdoor School, we inform students on the impact of conservation. We are thankful for the laws that help regulate wildlife populations. Alligator season will begin September 18th. Check out Arkansas Game and Fish for more information .
