Global Ties Arkansas

Global Ties Arkansas "The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed." --Carl Gustav Jung

We are an international diplomacy nonprofit organization, which hosts groups from various countries coming to Arkansas to learn about different topics, so that they can take the information back to their home country and translate it into their culture. These topics vary widely, such as foreign policy, farm to market research, volunteerism, special education, or regional health challenges. The gro

up may stay only a few days or as long as a month. We are always looking for host families who are willing to allow visitors to stay in their home while they are here. We also need folks who are willing to just "be a friend" by hosting visitors for dinner, taking them to activities, etc. Those who are interested in International Affairs and/or speak another language are desirable but anyone can be a host family who has an extra bed and room in their heart to accept visitors.

We were thrilled to welcome Global Ties Arkansas to the Emerging Analytics Center! Our international guests experienced cutting-edge immersive technology as we showcased our CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) and augmented reality projects. It's inspiring to share Arkansas innovation with global leaders and foster connections that bridge technology, education, and international collaboration. Thank you to Global Ties Arkansas for promoting citizen diplomacy through these enriching exchanges!

We have heard from one of our Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative alumni that she will soon be calling North Texas home for a while. Ms. Xuan Tranh has been awarded a fully paid scholarship. She writes,
"I'm excited to share that I’ve been awarded a fully funded PhD position in Finance with a Graduate Assistantship (teaching/research) at the University of North Texas, starting this Fall, 2025, and continuing through the Spring and Summer terms of 2026.
I’m deeply grateful to my professors, family, and friends for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout this journey. Thank you for always being there!"
Thanks to Global Ties Arkansas and to Mimi San Pedro!

Tonight we attended the Graduate Awards Reception for the graduating class of the Clinton School of Public Service. Senator Mark Pryor was there to give two awards that bear his father’s name. David Pryor was the first Dean of the Clinton School, and his son was there tonight to bestow the David Pryor Award for Outstanding Public Service to two recipients; one for a student who attended in person and the other who was an online student. We were there mainly to celebrate with our intern, Sarah Wambura, who graduates tomorrow from the School. We were thrilled to meet her sister who flew in to celebrate with her sister tonight and at tomorrow’s ceremony. Well done, Sarah, on getting your Masters in Public Service!

We and several guests were invited to the home of Global Ties Arkansas volunteer, and home host, Linda Bell, to enjoy dining and meeting with performers from the IBLA Music Competition who are traveling and performing in various cities in Arkansas. This morning they performed at Gibbs International Magnet Elementary School.
What you’re seeing in the bottom left picture is $75,000 worth of accordions, and weighing about 30 pounds, each. Due to the instrument’s sensitivity to temperature and pressure changes, it gets its own airplane seat! The seven musicians will perform tomorrow morning at UA Pine Bluff. They perform next week at Carnegie Hall.

This morning, Marco Mendieta, an alum of the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative that we hosted here in Little Rock in 2016 is to be the keynote speaker at the YLAI Closing Forum in Washington D.C. He has relayed to us on several occasions, the impact his fellowship here made on him regarding his entrepreneurial journey, going from strength to strength in establishing incubation hubs, creating awareness of grant opportunities for study to his countrymen, to becoming an international public speaker. And we knew him when he was merely looking for innovations in office furniture!

Here’s what Marco has to say about his scheduled speech today, “I mentioned that this year I was going to be the Keynote Speaker at the closing of YLAI 2025 in Washington D.C., but due to Mr. Trump we have to do it virtually. 😢
Anyway, we’re going to inspire this new generation of Young Leaders of the Americas.”

We have no doubt, Marco, that you will!
