Arkansas American Legion This is the official page for The Department of Arkansas American Legion. This forum encourages the exchange of differing opinions and ideals.

In contrast to other veterans organizations, the Legion offers a number of local programs and activities to strengthen its commitment to our nation’s grass roots and the people we serve. American Legion Baseball is one of the nation’s most successful amateur athletic programs; it continues to educate youths on the importance of sportsmanship and develops the quality of our country’s citizenship. The Heroes to Hometowns program is the only nationwide reintegration assistance service for wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Additionally, millions of dollars in donations have been given to fellow veterans and their families in times of grief, and various scholarship opportunities ensure the future success of our youth. General Rules:
The American Legion is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with great political influence perpetuated by its grass-roots involvements in the legislation process. Legionnaires’ sense of obligation to their community, state and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington. The Legion stands not behind politics, but the issues and people that institute progress by focusing on veterans rights and quality of life. However, the use of vulgarity or profanity, or offensive terms will result in posts being deleted. Any personal attacks or allegations against fellow posters or individuals will result in posts being deleted. No name calling. Posts that infringe upon the intellectual property of another will be deleted. Repeated violations will result in a ban. When responding to a post, think about how you’d want to be addressed, and please post accordingly. Repeated violations of simple courtesy will result in a ban. Don't turn it into a personal attack (i.e. name-calling, being condescending, etc.). Those posts that don't follow this rule will be deleted. If you disagree with a policy decision made by an elected official, you are free to criticize that individual. But leave political parties out of it. Any references criticizing Democrats, Republicans, liberals, conservatives, Tea Party members, etc. will result in a deletion of the comment – whether it’s a comment or a reply to a comment. A second violation will result in a ban.

For nearly a century, our nation has set aside a day to honor the mothers and families of servicemembers who gave their lives in service. Gold Star Mother’s Day was established in 1936 and is observed on the last Sunday in September. In 2009, the observance was expanded to recognize Gold Star families as well.

On Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day, we remember the fallen, honor the strength and resilience of their families, and reaffirm a promise that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

They answered the call when their country needed them. Now, they need the community to answer theirs. 🇺🇸

On Nov. 10, the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine in Little Rock will host Give Veterans a Smile, a free dental clinic providing much-needed care to veterans.

For too many veterans, access to dental care remains out of reach. This clinic is an opportunity to honor their service in a very tangible way, by helping provide the care they need.

But Lyon College School of Dental Medicine cannot do it alone. Community donations will help cover the cost of dental supplies, treatment and other expenses needed to make this clinic possible.

Every gift, regardless of size, can help a veteran receive care, feel valued and leave with a healthier smile.

They served. They sacrificed. Now, it’s our turn to give back.

Please consider making a donation to Give Veterans a Smile and sharing this post with others who believe our veterans deserve our support.

Together, we can give back to those who gave so much. 🇺🇸
