The Ozark Society partnered with The Nature Conservancy and the Arkansas Native Plant Society for a guided plant walk to explore native trees, fall flowers and fall plant life at the Nature Conservancy’s Ranch North Woods. Special thanks to Eric Sundell and the Nature Conservancy staff for leading our walk. Eric is a retired botany professor, conservationist and author as well as father to Joe Sundell, member of the band “Sad Daddy” which is a favorite of many Ozark Society members. The 2026 Six Bridges Book Festival was especially meaningful to me—not just because I love books and the wonderful literary community we have in Arkansas, but because I had the joy of celebrating four authors.

📚 Betsy Singleton Snyder and Gail Feiser are dear personal friends of mine, so seeing them at the festival and celebrating their books made this year extra special. I’m proud to call them friends and excited to share their work with others. They co-wrote “New Tricks How Pet Ministry Can Transform Faith Communities and Change Lives”. Betsy wrote “Stepping on Cheerios Finding God in the Chaos and Clutter of Life.”

📚 Marvin Schwartz is also a good friend and fellow member of the Ozark Society. Our shared love of Arkansas, its natural places, and the work of protecting them makes his writing particularly meaningful to me. Marvin has published eight books of Arkansas history and two volumes of poetry as well as “Remember This” a collection of writings about Marvin’s career and a children’s book titled “All the Way Home” which he wrote and illustrated.

📚 Eli Craner has a special connection to my family—he played football with my son-in-law at Ouachita Baptist University. It was wonderful to celebrate Eli as recipient of the 2026 Booker Worthen Literary Prize.
Four authors and four connections that made the 2026 Six Bridges Book Festival much more personal for me than a typical literary event.

I encourage everyone to check out their books and support these Arkansas authors. Buying a book is always a good thing—but buying a book from someone you know and admire makes it even better! ❤️📖

So grateful for good friends, good books, and the Arkansas literary community that brings us all together.

Celebrating National Public Lands Day at Rock Creek Trail! 🌿

The Ozark Society Pulaski Chapter celebrated National Public Lands Day by picking up trash along Rock Creek Trail in Little Rock. Our volunteers collected several bags of trash and even hauled away two shopping carts!

Rock Creek Trail is a wonderful little corner of nature right in the middle of our city. It offers a chance to step away from the hustle and bustle, enjoy some green space, and reconnect with nature—all while still being in the heart of Little Rock.
