Juneteenth.
A day that holds both freedom and the question of what freedom actually costs a people who had to wait for it.
At The Confess Project of America, we think about that legacy often. Our ancestors carried weight they were never given the tools or space to put down. Generations learned to survive in silence because silence was sometimes the only safe option. That survival got us here. But it also taught us patterns weâre still unlearning.
This is why our work in barbershops, salons, and community spaces matters to us so deeply. We believe true freedom includes the freedom to feel, to speak, to heal out loud. Mental health is liberation work. Every conversation we create space for is a small act of finishing what Juneteenth started: making sure freedom isnât just legal, itâs lived, in our minds, our homes, and our relationships.
Today we honor those who came before us, and we recommit to the ones still healing.
Happy Juneteenth, from our family to yours. đ¤
