“New data published by the Arizona and Arkansas state departments of education reinforced this finding, showing that many students in those states used open enrollment to transfer to highly rated school districts.”

Plus: School choice proposals advance in New Hampshire, Iowa, Tennessee, and Oklahoma, while New Hampshire’s open enrollment proposal stumbles in the lower chamber.

“Opponents of school choice frequently argue that public schools operate under clear systems of accountability, while private schools do not. But as this updated analysis makes clear, that assumption does not hold up under scrutiny.”

Five years ago, we released The Accountability Myth, a report challenging one of the most common arguments in debates over school choice.

“Homeschooling can mean a parent-led curriculum at the kitchen table, a co-op of neighborhood families gathering at a church, a microschool blending in-person and online instruction, or a hybrid of all of the above.”

We're taking a look at how a new wave of education freedom policies is giving every family the chance to customize their child’s education.

“Recent surveys have confirmed what many families probably already know: most who switch schools stay within public education. But knowing where families go doesn’t explain why they move…or why so many don’t, despite wanting to.”

Survey reveals where families go when they switch schools, or why so many don't, despite wanting to. The data has insights into school choice.

At the close of the first full school year under the new No Cell Bell to Bell Act, this report shares feedback from officials, a teacher and a student all looking back on a year they describe as feeling different.

As the school year winds down in Arkansas, educators and state leaders are taking stock of a major change that reshaped the school day: the “Bell To Bell, No Ce

"Wouldn't the time to determine how much a constitutional amendment will

They're back.

On the news: You may have seen this article earlier this week, but it's important to note an update. Bureau of Legislative Research (BLR) survey results on teacher job satisfaction actually mirror those found by the UA Office of Education Policy, that 89% of teacher surveyed either agree or strongly agree that they're satisfied. This was not immediately apparent in the meeting or in the initial reporting on it.

However, while the article notes BLR used an NEA report in its salary study, neither it nor BLR acknowledge that NEA's report has been criticized for its lack of transparency and violations of research ethics.

Teacher pay in Arkansas is increasingly lagging behind dozens of other states when taking the cost of living into account, legislative staff told state lawmakers Monday.

“Changing people’s practices takes time. Building people’s capacity is complicated. But dramatically improving statewide learning outcomes is possible and necessary, and Arkansas is on its way.”

Sometimes growth is imperceptible. Think about grass, hair, or our children’s height. They’re all growing, even when we can’t tell. The same thing is happening in our classrooms: Arkansas teachers,...

“If you wanna talk about empowering people and power parents, we love our kids
more than anybody else we know our kids more than anybody else... And so allowing us to be able to have the resources to be able to do what’s best for our kids is huge."

For decades, the education debate has centered on schools. The LEARNS Act shifts the focus somewhere else entirely: parents.Supporters call it empowerment. Criti

"In the past, state test scores were not like this – they were released into the great void of summer. Students knew they would not be held accountable, and their efforts were mixed."

After 23 years in the classroom, I have learned something simple but powerful: students will rise to the level we set for them. The question is whether the systems around...
